1st Shift CMM Technician

Department: Manufacturing / Operations / Quality

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: US - Wisconsin - Madison

Reporting To: Russ Roling

Compensation: $19.00 / hour



Description


Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of CMM programs for inspection of both First Article and production components using Calypso software.  Provides technical guidance to quality technicians for visual and mechanical inspection of castings, machined and molded parts.





Key Responsibilities


•      Operates coordinate measuring equipment in order to make complex, precise measurements of materials.
 •      Reads and interprets technical specifications, blueprints and layouts for product specifications
•      Creates detailed reports from measurement results for distribution to other functional areas, primarily engineering  
 •      Interprets inspection results, compares them to established specifications and/or control limits, completes necessary technical reports, and makes recommendations for product release or corrective action
 •      Liaises with engineering and other production staff as required to troubleshoot, research and solve technical problems.
 •      Conducts analyses of in-process materials, raw materials, part samples, finished goods, or process samples.
 •      Identifies and selects gaging appropriate to part features and available tolerances.
 •      Interfaces with suppliers (via phone and/or e-mail) to resolve inspection findings
 •      Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
 •      Performs other related duties as required or assigned.



Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Skills and Abilities

•      5+ years programming experience with CALYPSO or similar CAD-based CMM software
•      Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, fixtures, etc.)
•      Advanced knowledge of GD&T
•      Effectively presents information and responds to questions from groups of managers and/or customers.
•      Works with mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
•      Plans the time, method, manner, and/or performance sequence of own work; may also occasionally assist in planning work assignments performed by others within a limited area of operation.

Education and Experience
•      Equivalent of four years of high school (required).

Computer Skills
•      Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include regular peripheral viewing; viewing length changes; close viewing with depth perception; and occasional distance viewing.
  • Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the need to perceive the spoken voice clearly and the need to hear warning signals up to 70dbs with or without assistance.
  • Specific speech abilities regularly required by this job include comprehensible speech.
