About this Position
Developer is responsible for designing, modifying, and developing systems using advanced techniques including the ability to analyze current systems to resolve new and/or existing problems for the Reinsurance – Actuarial systems. Requires in-depth knowledge and experience in front-end system development. Acts as resource for colleagues with less experience; may lead or direct the work of other developers/projects. Stays current on new and emerging technology. Works independently; receives minimal guidance.Location: Duluth, GA

Responsibilities & Qualifications
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Duties
- Codes, unit tests, and debugs programs ensuring optimal performance using advanced programming techniques.
- Writes technical specifications and creates thorough unit test plans for each new functionality, application and/or conversion from one application system to the next.
- Performs thorough unit testing for new functionality, applications, conversions, etc., through full regression validation.
- Utilizes appropriate software tools for source code management, code creation, compilation and program execution.
- Documents new systems as well as changes to existing systems according to established standards; develop flow charts, logic charts, record formats, and coding structures using architecture approved tools.
- Reviews business test plans and results to ensure effectiveness in meeting project requirements.
- Directs training of business personnel in new and modified systems.
- Provides on-call support for production and lower environments.
- Provides training by working with and mentoring other developers and/or contractors.
Analysis and Investigative Responsibilities
- Performs background analysis through research, interviews / meetings with business areas to define needs, understand desired results and to resolve problems.
- Meets independently with business partners and management to determine systems solutions and evaluate technical feasibility.
- Analyzes detailed system factors, including input and output requirements, information flow, hardware and software requirements and alternative methods of problem resolution to ensure optimal performance.
- Applies advanced analysis skills and business knowledge to solve complex business problems.
- Utilizes appropriate approved tools to design solutions.
- Stays abreast of advanced technology within areas of expertise.
- Collaborate with others to formulate optimal solutions.
Project Delivery Responsibilities
- Participates and leads system creation, planning, and coordination with other IT teams and resources.
- Creates and/or updates system documentation as appropriate based on project assignment.
- Develops project proposals (including estimates) and presents to stakeholders for review and approval.
- Discusses and documents how proposed changes to the system will affect business process or other relevant systems.
- Enforces and adheres to the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Technology Management Policy.
- Adheres to the Change Management Technology Management Policy.
Project Leadership
- Manages more complex projects to completion including project design and proposals.
- Maintains positive business/peer interactions.
Compliance:
- Protects the company’s authority to do business by complying with legal and ethical standards, policies, and procedures.
- Follows all applicable Information Technology Management Policies.
- Ensures new development tools, methods or frameworks provide for secure coding techniques.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides training, guidance or mentoring to team members, no formal supervisory responsibilities
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATES
- Technical, trade or business school or equivalent experience in computer science, computer engineering or related field
- 4-5 years’ experience
- Participated in several major system projects and has shown proficiency in several development discipline/platforms
- Problem solving skills, analysis and design skills
- Coding, testing and debugging systems
- Self-motivated with outstanding organizational, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to work well with peers and management
- Takes ownership of the tasks assigned and works with minimal guidance and direction from management, and other team members
SKILLS
- Strong hands-on experience with core mainframe technologies, including COBOL, JCL, SQL (DB2 or equivalent), VSAM, CICS, TSO/ISPF, and z/OS Unix System Services (USS), along with modern debugging and diagnostic tools (e.g., Intertest, XPEDITER, IBM Debugger)
- Understanding of mainframe architecture and application design, including batch processing, online transaction processing (OLTP), job scheduling, and data integration patterns
- Proven expertise in batch processing environments, with a strong grasp of job flow dependencies, scheduling, and performance considerations within complex financial systems
- Experience supporting regulated, audit-driven financial systems, including an understanding of production controls, change management, and compliance requirements
- Demonstrated ability to operate at a system level, including:
- -Explaining complex technical and system interactions in a clear, structured manner
- -Making sound decisions with incomplete information while balancing risk and urgency
- -Communicating technical risks, tradeoffs, and impacts to both technical and business stakeholders
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively partner across distributed teams and varying levels of experience
Preferred Skills:
- Experience using Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, O365 or similar tools
- Financial services or insurance domain experience
- Assembler is a plus (not required)
