General Summary of PositionMedStar Health Urgent Care is committed to providing world-class compassionate care to every patient every time at every touch point during the experience. All associates are accountable for their role in meeting patient experience standards. Performs a variety of duties such as history and physicals as well as providing care to assigned patients. Assesses diagnoses documents findings. Writes medical orders and/or prescriptions. Makes clinical decisions relative to patient management through collaboration with physicians.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Assists in necessary preparations prior to surgery.
  • Assists in providing care. Writes appropriate order sets including medications.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with MedStar Health mission vision goals objectives and patient care philosophy.
  • Develops treatment plan and discusses proposed course of treatment with patient's attending physician and other health care team members as appropriate to include consultants and referrals.
  • Functions under surgeon's direction as surgical assistant. Assists in necessary preparations prior to and post surgery.
  • Initiates performs and interprets diagnostic tests necessary in routine and emergent care of patients.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other departments and participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Maintains established department goals objectives policies and procedures quality and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Monitors patients and communicates significant patient findings to the changes in patients' status or appropriate physician.
  • Obtains detailed and accurate history performs physical examinations and reviews medical records to assess patient's health status.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Enhances growth and development and enriches personal knowledge and skill through participation in educational programs and affiliations.
  • Performs emergency life saving procedures as appropriate.
  • Performs minor surgical procedures (e.g. laceration repair incision and drainage of uncomplicated abscess).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs procedures as appropriate for patient care.
  • Provides emotional and educational support to patient and family as may be appropriate.
  • Provides initial fracture care including the application of fiberglass splints.
  • Responds to nursing and ancillary status calls.
  • Writes progress notes on patients' medical record indicating patient status treatment and procedures performed.

Minimal QualificationsEducation

  • High School Diploma or GED from a Physician Assistant Program accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program; required and
  • Bachelor's degree preferred

Experience

  • 1-2 years Related experience required

Licenses and Certifications

  • PA - Physician Assistant NCCPA (National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants) certification(pending or current). required and
  • Pending or current certification with the Maryland Board of Physicians Quality Assurance (BPQA). required and
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required and
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $20.00 - USD $20.00 /Yr.
