Role Description The Disaster Recovery (DR) Architecture Specialist will provide expert leadership to lead, review, refine, and update the customers IT Disaster Recovery Strategy and associated capabilities.
Qualifications & Years of Experience Required
Relevant degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering
Industry certifications (preferred): ISO 22301 Lead Implementer / Auditor
• ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Implementer / Auditor
• TOGAF or equivalent Enterprise Architecture certification
• Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or equivalent
• Cloud certifications (Azure/AWS) advantageous

• Alignment of DR strategy with Business Impact Analysis (BIA), RTOs, and RPOs
• Design and standardisation of resilient architecture patterns (HA, redundancy, failover, hybrid cloud/on-prem)
• Development and enhancement of DR plans, frameworks, and standards
• Establishment of governance, assurance, and continuous improvement mechanisms
• Enablement of operational readiness, including roles, procedures, and escalation models

Skills & Training Objective: The objective of training and skills transfer is to ensure sustainable internal capability within Eskom by enabling relevant teams to effectively manage, maintain, and continuously improve Disaster Recovery (DR) processes, architectures, and governance frameworks beyond the duration of the engagement. Approach: The DR Architecture Specialist will adopt a structured and collaborative approach to knowledge transfer, including: • On-the-job training and mentorship through active participation of internal teams in DR activities • Facilitated workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions aligned to key deliverables • Documentation and artefact handover to ensure knowledge is retained within Eskom • Shadowing and reverse-shadowing to build practical capability and confidence Training & Scope Content Training will cover, but not be limited to, the following areas: • DR Strategy development, review, and continuous improvement • DR architecture principles (high availability, redundancy, failover, hybrid cloud/on-prem) • Alignment of BIA outputs with recovery strategies (RTO/RPO) • Development and maintenance of DR plans, procedures, and runbooks • DR testing methodologies, simulation exercises, and reporting • Governance, assurance, and integration with risk, cybersecurity, and business continuity • Incident response coordination and operational readiness practices Training Delivery Methods • Instructor-led workshops (on-site and/or virtual) • Interactive working sessions and simulations (e.g., DR test exercises) • Formal training presentations and materials • Hands-on exercises and case studies • Playbooks, guides, and reference documentation Target Audience
