Overview:
To provide musical direction and accompaniment for all rehearsals, weekend, Holy Day, and Vigil liturgical celebrations of the Goodfellow Air Force Base Catholic Community. The contractor consults and coordinates with the Catholic Pastoral Coordinator and implements the Catholic Chaplain's liturgical music recommendations. All music will be performed in accordance with the Catholic Church's guidelines De musica sacraet sacra liturgia (Instructions on Sacred Music and Sacred Liturgy) and approved by the Catholic Chaplain or Deputy Wing Chaplain in his absence. The contractor is monitored by the Contracting Officer/COR in consultation with the Catholic Chaplain.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• The candidate shall have a college degree in music or completed college-level music courses. They must be proficient in sight-reading music and be capable of playing a variety of liturgical and Catholic folk songs. They must possess knowledge and experience in Catholic musical traditions, including liturgical, traditional, and contemporary styles of worship and praise. Additionally, the candidate must be able to play and sight-read music in collaboration with other musicians, such as those playing guitar, drums, trumpet, and other instruments
• Must have at least six months of experience in a Catholic parish setting as a choir director, cantor and accompanist.
• Be proficient in sight-reading, voice, and must be proficient in playing organ, piano and experienced with Catholic liturgical music.
• Be proficient at interpretation of vocal and instrumental scores to include both traditional and contemporary Catholic music.
• Demonstrate knowledge of planning and collaboration with a group of liturgical musicians, communicating effectively with singers.
• Demonstrate ability to select and present appropriate liturgical music in keeping with the Sacred Liturgy.
• Be knowledgeable of the Roman Catholic Mass, Liturgies, and the role of music in worship and the liturgical seasons.
• Function as a team member in a pluralistic environment working with chaplains, Staff, contractors and volunteers.
• Possess the skills to synchronize music with choir and/or congregation.
• Letters of recommendation from two Roman Catholic pastors or priests testifying to the candidate's performance and moral character are required.

General Responsibilities:

• Consults with the Catholic Chaplain or Auxiliary Priest to coordinate, plan, and lead the performance of all music supporting weekend worship and Holy Day celebration for the Goodfellow Air Force Base Catholic community.
• Functions as First Cantor, and Accompanist leading the singing of the Goodfellow Catholic community at all weekend and Holy Day liturgical celebrations.
• Conducts, recruits, organizes, trains, and leads the choir through a minimum of two weekly rehearsals with one rehearsal on Sunday morning and another on an evening during the week to accommodate students' schedules.
• Incorporate songs and hymns into the music program when requested by the Catholic Chaplain or Auxiliary Priest.
• Consults with the Catholic Chaplain or Auxiliary Priest for all questions concerning the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy.
• Complies with all Federal, State, Local Laws, Air Force Instructions, and Chapel Operating Instructions that apply to this position, to include funds requests supporting the Catholic music program.
• In coordination with the Catholic Parish Coordinator, ensures all volunteers working with youth below 18 years of age complete a background check as described in DoDI 1402.5.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Provide the Catholic Chaplain a written liturgical plan by season (Advent/Christmas. Lent/Easter and Ordinary time) including Holy Days and special celebrations.
• Develop and present budget for the music program for the fiscal year.
• Select music and begin rehearsal four weeks in advance.
• Direct the choir, recruit musicians, and provide choral responses, anthems and special music to enhance liturgical celebrations.
• Continually recruit new choir members.
• Maintain harmonious relationships with choir members and chapel staff.
• Dress in a modest and professional manner appropriate for an office and/or worship environment
• Perform all cantorial responsibilities, leading the choir and community in song at all liturgical celebrations.
• Communicate weekly with the Catholic Chaplain, or in his absence the Auxiliary Priest to discuss musical selections for weekend worship and other liturgical celebrations.
• Perform for special/emergency liturgies and services (funerals) upon request.
• Ensure all facilities and storage areas are secure and clean according to established chapel facility safety and security procedures.
• Operate within Christian Copyright License International (CCLI) guidelines and CCLI Terms of Agreement.
• Will not reproduce any material in violation of current copywrite laws.
• Shall ensure that the chapel facility is reserved for all rehearsals and performances as required.
• All work will normally be performed at the Goodfellow AFB Chapel or one of its satellite facilities.
• Will appropriately consult with the Contract Officer/COR or designated representative, develop an annual calendar of events to reflect appropriated funds, budget, and core religious education curriculum. The information is submitted as required by the local Chaplain Corps operating procedures.

Safety:

• Shall comply with all applicable OSHA and AFOSH standards.
• Shall not bring any hazardous materials on site or use hazardous materials in any company facility.
• Employees are prohibited from possessing weapons, firearms, or ammunition on themselves or within their contractor-owned or privately-owned vehicles while on company property.

Period of Performance: the period of service is one base year and four optional years.

• Each Sunday the Music Director must be present for three (3) hours (0800 a.m. – 11 a.m.) at the Goodfellow Chapel (Bldg. 136)
• The Music Director will work four (4) hours for the remaining of the work week (Monday-Saturday)
• The contractor shall ensure that total hours of work does not exceed the total hours described in points above. Typical work hours can be adjusted to best fit the needs of the Chapel.

Competency-based assessment:

• Catholic Chaplain and/or member of the GAFB Chapel Staff will conduct an assessment to ensure you meet the requirements of the contract. You must bring a resume of your job experience and qualifications to this assessment.
• Assessment will consist of dialogue, reading sheet music and a musical demonstration. Music instruments will be provided by the chapel.
• Previous experience in a Catholic Director of Music military chapel setting is preferred/not required.
