Description

The Research Fellow at National Centre for Advanced Integrated Photonics (NCAIP) will contribute to the development of integrated superconducting nanowire single-photon detector (SNSPD) technologies for on-chip quantum photonic and sensing platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

As an integral part of the project, the Research Fellow is expected to conduct research in integrated SNSPD detectors and readout technologies, including the development and experimental validation of waveguide-integrated SNSPD devices; process integration; optical coupling optimization; on-chip detection-efficiency measurement; timing-jitter characterization; photon-number-resolving operation; and detector integration with quantum photonic circuits. The role also includes nanofabrication and process development for integrated photonic and detector structures, including thin-film deposition, lithography, etching, wafer- or chip-scale process flow optimization, and materials/device characterization.

The Research Fellow will also develop SNSPD integration in MWIR topological waveguides and waveguide-integrated MWIR detector platforms, including device fabrication/assembly, coupling to MWIR waveguides, and optimization of detector performance. The role further includes development of SNSPD detector arrays and readout architectures, including multi-pixel detector arrays, space- or time-multiplexed effective-pixel arrays, photon-number-resolving detection, integrated electronic boards for control/readout, hybrid cryogenic electronics, biasing, amplification, thresholding, digitization, and detector-array performance benchmarking.

The Research Fellow is expected to support cryogenic packaging and system-level integration, including fiber-array coupling, electrical interconnects, compact packaging of detector chips, low-noise readout interfaces, and reliability/yield/stability assessment of integrated detector prototypes.

The Research Fellow is expected to work, generate ideas and experimentally prove them both independently and within team-working efforts with other researchers working on the project to deliver state‑of‑the‑art single‑photon imaging capabilities, and to disseminate results through publications, reports, and IP contributions.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Physics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or a related discipline.

  • Strong research background in integrated photonics, nanophotonics, nanofabrication, photonic device fabrication, superconducting detectors, or related fields.

  • Proven publication record in reputable peer-reviewed journals.

  • Experience in cleanroom fabrication processes and advanced materials/device characterization techniques is preferred.

  • Familiarity with photonic waveguide platforms and detector integration technologies is advantageous.

  • Experience with SNSPDs, superconducting materials, cryogenic measurements, MWIR photonics, detector arrays, readout electronics, or cryogenic packaging will be an added advantage.

  • Proficiency in scientific programming, data analysis, simulation, and modeling tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, TCAD, photonic simulation software).

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently in a research environment.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
