Are you an experienced Transmission Network Engineer with a passion for solving complex technical challenges and driving network performance? We're looking for a Tier 3 Transmission Network Engineer to play a key role in supporting and enhancing SSE's telecommunications transmission network.
In this specialist role, you'll provide technical leadership across the operational environment, ensuring network changes are delivered safely and effectively, supporting third-party partners, and driving continuous improvement across our transmission infrastructure. You'll be instrumental in maintaining network reliability, resolving complex issues, and supporting the future evolution of a business-critical network.
What You'll Be Doing
Record, repair, maintain and install transmission network infrastructure.
Integrate, configure and support transmission platforms across the network.
Provide Tier 3 technical support and lead the resolution of complex network faults.
Deliver network performance in line with agreed service levels and operational targets.
Conduct post-incident reviews, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
Drive service improvements based on network trends, incidents and performance analysis.
Proactively identify areas for network enhancement and raise improvement initiatives.
Manage and monitor third-party suppliers and telecoms partners against agreed SLAs.
Lead service review meetings covering faults, technical performance, processes and project activities.
Review and approve operational changes prior to handover to the NOC, ensuring a coordinated engineering approach.
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience
Proven experience in a Tier 3 Transmission Network Engineering role, including participation in an on-call rota.
Strong troubleshooting and fault-resolution experience across transmission technologies.
Experience working with vendor platforms such as:
Sorrento Gigamux
Nokia Synfonet
Turin Traverse
Connection Master
Cisco technologies
Technical Knowledge
Strong understanding of:
Fibre optic networks
PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy)
SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy)
Microwave Radio systems
Layer 2 Ethernet networking
Experience installing, maintaining and diagnosing faults across multi-technology transmission environments.
Ability to support both modern and legacy telecommunications networks.
Qualifications
Degree in Telecommunications or a related discipline is desirable.
