Description
Senior Performance Test Engineer
Johnson Controls is committed to creating intelligent, healthy, and sustainable buildings that help customers improve outcomes across safety, comfort, efficiency, and reliability. We are looking for a Senior Performance Test Engineer who can help ensure our digital experiences and connected solutions perform consistently under real-world demand.
In this role, you will work across QA and engineering teams to shape performance testing strategy, strengthen automation, and uncover opportunities to improve system behavior before issues reach customers.
Role Overview
As a Senior Performance Test Engineer, you will design, execute, and evolve performance testing for web applications, databases, and APIs. You will combine hands-on scripting with analytical thinking to identify bottlenecks, validate scalability, and support confident releases for high-impact systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop performance test scripts using Java-based tools such as JMeter, BlazeMeter, Gatling, or LoadRunner.
- Plan, execute, and report on performance tests for web applications, databases, and APIs.
- Create and maintain an automated performance testing framework that supports repeatable and scalable execution.
- Collaborate with QA, development, and stakeholders to integrate performance testing into the overall quality strategy.
- Analyze results to identify bottlenecks, tune test scenarios, and propose corrective actions.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and help resolve performance issues in software systems.
- Continuously improve performance testing processes, methods, and reporting to strengthen release readiness.
How You Will Do It
- Own performance quality from planning through execution and analysis, with clear accountability for results and follow-through.
- Stay close to the application flow, data path, and user experience so you focus on the issues that matter most.
- Use root-cause analysis and candid reporting to improve scripts, frameworks, and test coverage after every cycle.
- Partner closely with QA, development, and business stakeholders to remove obstacles and resolve bottlenecks as one team.
- Use Java-based performance testing tools and well-controlled test data to keep results reliable and comparable.
- Document assumptions, scenarios, findings, and recommendations so outcomes are easy to review and act on.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 5-10 years of experience in QA performance engineering, senior test engineering, or a similar hands-on testing role.
- Hands-on experience designing and executing performance tests for web applications, databases, and APIs.
- Practical experience with JMeter, BlazeMeter, Gatling, or LoadRunner.
- Experience creating or maintaining automated performance testing frameworks using Java-based tools.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to identify performance bottlenecks and recommend fixes.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with QA, development, and stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience with cloud environments, preferably Azure, and cloud-based testing solutions.
- Exposure to large-scale, customer-facing applications or distributed systems.
- Familiarity with monitoring, profiling, or observability tools used during performance analysis.
