The Fire Alarm and Suppression Journeyman is responsible for the installation, service, inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems and fire suppression systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and company procedures. This role requires a strong technical background, the ability to work independently or as part of a team, and a commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Install, program, test, inspect, service, and repair fire alarm systems, including control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, and related components.
Install, inspect, test, maintain, and service fire suppression systems (such as clean agent, pre-action, dry/wet sprinkler interfaces, or special hazard systems, as applicable).
Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics to identify system deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure all work complies with NFPA standards, local AHJ requirements, manufacturer specifications, and company policies.
Complete accurate documentation, including inspection reports, service tickets, time entries, and deficiency reports.
Interface professionally with customers, general contractors, inspectors, and AHJs.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and technical manuals.
Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and other partners to ensure timely project completion.
Maintain tools, test equipment, and company vehicles in safe working condition.
Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency service calls as required.
Mentor and provide guidance to apprentices and less-experienced technicians.
Adhere to all safety requirements, including OSHA regulations and company safety programs.
Other duties as assigned.
Education/Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Journeyman-level experience in fire alarm and/or fire suppression systems.
Applicable state or local Journeyman license or certification (where required).
Working knowledge of NFPA codes (including but not limited to NFPA 72, NFPA 13, and applicable suppression standards).
Ability to program and service common fire alarm and suppression system manufacturers.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret construction documents and technical drawings.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
NICET certification (Level II or higher) in Fire Alarm Systems and/or Special Hazards Suppression preferred.
Other Duties:

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access confined spaces.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work with hands and tools for extended periods.
Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor job sites.
