Description
This recruitment will establish an eligibility list to fill current and future CONTRACTED vacancies.
Contracted positions are 15 - 30 hours per week, 9.5 month per year
The current vacancies are located throughout the District.
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $18.53 per hour (Step 1) - $21.48 per hour (Step 4)
Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1).
*Official Transcripts must be sealed and sent directly to the Personnel Commission. Electronic Transcripts not sent directly to the Personnel Commission will not be considered official or sealed.*
Please Note: Positions greater than 20 hours per week will qualify for District health benefits.
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom or other learning environment; assist students in improving their reading, writing, vocabulary, math, computer skills and other subject areas; monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance; tutor students in assigned subject matters.
One year experience working with children in an organized setting.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Child guidance principles and practices.
Basic subjects taught in District schools including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading.
Safe practices in classroom and playground activities.
Basic instructional methods and techniques.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Oral and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Basic record-keeping techniques.
Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct.
Operation of office machines and keyboard equipment.
ABILITY TO:
Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom or other learning environment.
Assist students in improving their reading, writing, vocabulary, math, computer skills and other subject areas.
Monitor and report student progress regarding behavior and performance.
Tutor students in assigned subject matters.
Print and write legibly.
Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Learn the procedures, functions and limitations of assigned duties.
Communicate effectively with children and adults.
Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Monitor and discipline students according to approved policies and procedures.
Operate instructional and office equipment.

In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 (Minimum Salary) of the official salary range designated for the position. Any variances in initial placement are addressed in, and shall be carried out in agreement with, this rule.
