Job Description
Reporting to the MEP Manager, the Senior MEP Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all on-site mechanical, fire protection, and electrical construction activities within their scope on a daily basis. This role combines project management with hands-on site supervision.
The Senior MEP Coordinator will ensure that all construction activities are carried out safely, manage subcontractors to achieve on-time and on-budget delivery, verify that work complies with design requirements, and coordinate effectively with other on-site teams.
Responsibilities:
Project Management
- Collaborate with the Station Construction team to manage subcontractor MEP budgets, schedules, and change management.
- Interface with the design team by coordinating subcontractor Requests for Information (RFIs), Field Change Requests (FCRs), shop drawing approvals, and method statements.
- Monitor and control costs for assigned activities, providing monthly reporting and closeout updates.
- Proactively plan activities to anticipate constraints and mitigate potential risks.
- Lead pull-planning sessions for Fire Protection, Mechanical, and Electrical works.
- Drive productivity improvements by monitoring subcontractor performance, ensuring adherence to project schedules and budget.
- Coordinate with the Quality Department on PICO activities post-installation, participate in Engineer of Record (EoR) inspections, and resolve punch list items.
- Liaise with the Commissioning team to align and initiate commissioning activities across all disciplines.
- Attend construction meetings to report on progress, risks, and key challenges.
Site Supervision
- Supervise subcontractor activities to ensure work is executed safely and in compliance with project standards.
- Coordinate MEP subcontractors on site to ensure proper sequencing and integration of activities.
- Interface MEP works with Civil and Architectural scopes to prevent clashes and ensure smooth execution.
- Conduct inspections, track installed quantities, and verify compliance with specifications and drawings.
- Ensure materials and workmanship meet established project quality standards through regular site inspections.
- Prepare and hand over areas for Systems activities, particularly in critical rooms.
- Ensure timely resolution and closeout of all punch list items.
Required Skills and Competencies
Experience/Qualifications:
- A four-year degree in construction, engineering, or a related field is required, or an equivalent combination of technical training and relevant experience.
- Minimum of five years of construction experience, including exposure to both mechanical and electrical disciplines.
- Experience working on transit or rail projects is preferred.
- Strong ability to assess and evaluate trade performance is essential.
- Advanced knowledge of construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, quality management, and interpretation of engineering drawings and related documentation.
- Proven ability to take responsibility, effectively interface with stakeholders, and communicate clearly with diverse teams.
