Senior Health, Safety & Environment Manager
Princeton, NJ
As the Senior Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and expert guidance across all operational departments at our perfumery site. In this key role, you will drive, maintain, and continuously improve health, safety, and environmental programs, processes, initiatives, and campaigns to support operational excellence and regulatory compliance. Leveraging data-driven insights, you will identify opportunities for improvement, implement impactful solutions, and partner closely with the site leadership team to build organizational capabilities and foster a strong culture of safety, sustainability, and continuous learning.
Your key responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted HSE business partner, protecting our people, environment, and assets while supporting sustainable business growth. Build strong relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels through coaching, collaboration, and expert guidance to strengthen the site's HSE culture.
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the site's Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System, ensuring compliance with company standards, ISO requirements, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of site operations and manufacturing processes to identify, assess, and mitigate key risks. Ensure robust risk management practices are embedded within site management systems and maintain an effective, risk-based HSE audit program.
- Partner with site stakeholders to develop and execute the HSE continuous improvement roadmap, aligning local priorities with global HSE strategies and management principles. Analyze performance data and trends, provide actionable recommendations, and deliver technical and administrative leadership on HSE matters.
- Support and guideline management in the investigation of workplace injuries, illnesses, incidents, and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and lessons learned are effectively integrated into management systems and prevention programs.
- Lead internal HSE audit programs and maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications. Ensure readiness and successful outcomes for customer, regulatory, and third-party certification audits through effective compliance management and continuous improvement initiatives.

You bring
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field, with 5-10 years of HSE experience in a manufacturing environment; professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, or CHMM are preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and experience working with regulatory agencies, including expertise in root cause analysis, incident investigation, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex HSE concepts and drive engagement at all levels of the organization.
- Working knowledge of HSE management systems and applicable standards, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, with experience supporting compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, make sound decisions under pressure, and apply strong judgment when working with incomplete or conflicting information.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with strong analytical skills and the ability to leverage data to drive performance improvements and informed decision-making.
The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant’s job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. Salary $142,000 - $150,000.
