Industrial Park Analyst - Energy and Sustainable Business Program

This is a hybrid position which requires 8 days per month in the office. You will be based in our office in WRI Indonesia, Jakarta. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission as WRI is unable to sponsor any visa work sponsorship for this position.

Program Overview

The Energy and Sustainable Business (ESB) program works to advance decarbonization among businesses, accelerating a just transition towards net-zero emissions in Indonesia while balancing the need for economic development. Supporting Indonesia’s pledge on Net Zero Emissions and energy transition, we are seeking to advance the private sector's contribution towards net zero, at any scale of business. In collaboration with our partners, including industries and industrial parks, business associations, key ministries, and PLN, we provide the private sector with a comprehensive decarbonization journey framework through training and technical assistance. This long-term effort requires both policy and technical knowledge, combined with WRI’s convening power, to ultimately move the key stakeholders to act and achieve the intended emission reduction.

One of our projects, Sustainable Energy Transition in Indonesia (SETI), has the main objective of supporting Indonesia’s energy transition by increasing the share of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency across key industries, industrial parks, and the built environment. To achieve this, SETI follows a multi-level approach that focuses on the demand perspective: it demonstrates innovative technologies and business cases to encourage private-sector actors to replicate successful renewable energy and energy-efficiency approaches in industry and industrial parks. This is accompanied by improving the readiness of financial instruments for sustainable energy investments. Lastly, SETI loops back results, lessons learned, and experiences to the national level to design a relevant and fertile policy framework.

The WRI’s ESB team is advancing our expertise in nurturing the ecosystem of decarbonization within manufacturing industries (e.g. cement, chemical, iron & steel, etc.), strengthening our institutional knowledge on clean heat solution and energy efficiency, and co-create energy supply strategies to meet the industries’ demand for clean energy with our partners. Industrial Park is an important part of the industrial climate transition where innovations are urgently needed. Its unique nature of operation -clusters of industries, managed by an industrial park management company- opens opportunities for more integrated climate solutions such as integrated energy planning, aggregated clean energy demand, centralized renewable energy power plants, district heating/cooling, and integrated green procurement. Through the ESB program, we aim to support industrial park transformation by adopting a sustainable framework for industrial parks and implementing more climate solutions to provide replicable best practices.

Job Highlight

The Industrial Park Analyst will actively contribute to WRI Indonesia’s research and activities on energy transition and industrial decarbonization within industrial parks. This position contributes to the organization’s mission by advancing evidence-based strategies to reduce emissions and promote cleaner energy use in industrial zones.

At the project level, the Analyst will conduct research and provide technical analysis on industrial profiling, energy audits, pre-feasibility studies, and the identification of opportunities for renewable energy and energy efficiency in the industrial park. The Analyst will also contribute to project implementation through stakeholder coordination, preparation of draft technical materials and knowledge products, and support on project monitoring and reporting. Beyond SETI, the Analyst may also be involved in actively contributing to the broader energy-related initiatives under the Energy and Sustainable Business Program, including collaborative research, knowledge development, and project events/activities related to industrial energy transition and sustainable business practices

The Analyst will report directly to the SETI Senior Project Lead and work closely with other project team members. The position is based in Jakarta with an office-flexible work arrangement and may require occasional travel, depending on project needs. What You Will Do

Knowledge and Research Work

• Lead the collection, analysis, and organization of data on energy use across Indonesian industrial parks through desk research, site visits, and engagement with stakeholders

• Assess and provide recommendations on the potential low-carbon technology opportunities (e.g., solar rooftop, energy efficiency) and business models relevant to the industrial parks based on available site data, financial appetite, and policy context.

• Provide technical analysis documentation, data processing outputs, and stakeholder mapping to support the delivery of technical assistance in industrial parks.

• Develop knowledge products (e.g., reports, slide decks, policy briefs, blog posts) in collaboration with the project team, incorporating analytical findings and stakeholder inputs

• Actively contribute to the broader SETI and ESB team’s strategic discussions through ideation and brainstorming, feedback, and documentation.

Project Management

• Coordinate the planning and implementation of project activities (e.g., internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences, etc.) by preparing substantive materials and administrative requirements such as drafting letters and TORs, documenting meeting outcomes, and tracking follow-up actions.

• Coordinate communication and task follow-ups with external experts, consultants, and research institutions as needed. 

• Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) activities by analyzing project progress, documenting the key achievements and lessons learned, and supporting internal reporting processes, as necessary.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Support stakeholder engagement by maintaining strong relationships with industries, industrial parks, technology providers, financial institutions, government agencies, consortium partners, and development organizations through technical discussion, consultation, and knowledge exchange to support research activities and project implementation.

• Collect, document, and incorporate stakeholder feedback and perspectives into technical assessment, research outputs, and project recommendations

• Coordinate with other WRI programs and international offices for joint initiatives or event logistics, particularly those related to energy transition and sustainable business topics.

What You Will Need

• Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Environmental Science, Public Policy, Business Administration, or other related fields.

• Minimum of 4 (four) years of relevant experience in energy, sustainability, or industrial research projects (internship and project-based work experience can be considered).

• Strong research skills, including literature review; collecting, cleaning, organizing, analyzing, and visualizing data; and writing technical content. Experience in preparing technical documents, reports, and knowledge products.

• Familiarity with Indonesia’s industrial sector and national policy and regulatory landscape related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, and industrial decarbonization.

• Good understanding of energy transition concepts, sustainability, and industrial park operations

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize technical information into practical recommendations.

• Experience supporting multi-stakeholder initiatives.

• Ability to communicate research approaches and findings effectively to internal audiences using compelling presentation skills.

• Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and English, both written and verbal.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and data analysis, visualization, GIS, and/or energy modelling tools.

• Ability and willingness to travel to other Indonesian provinces and overseas for business purposes.

• Legally able to work in Indonesia.

Contract Arrangement 

Full-time with fixed-term employment agreement for 6 (six) months with a possibility of extension up to 31 December 2027 subject to individual performance, project needs, and budget availability .
