Job Description

Old Mutual International finance team is looking for a Product Accountant position that will be mainly responsible for product accounting and compliance at an operational level, preparation of management reports, provision of interpretation of financial data and predictive results.

Key responsibilities will include amongst others the following:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports and review of oracle ledgers.
  • Provide interpretation of financial data and predictive analyses to support business and financial decision-making.
  • Prepare and provide financial disclosure reports to the reporting team, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reporting requirements
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances.

Investment reconciliations on a fund level

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations across multiple bank accounts, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and investigated where discrepancies arise.
  • Perform detailed reconciliation of policyholder fees at an individual policy level, ensuring fees charged, collected, waived, refunded, and reversed are accurately recorded and allocated.
  • Perform analysis of all balance sheet and income statement accounts for validity, completeness, accuracy, and correct recording into the annual financial statements.
  • Maintain and oversee the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of investment repository data across all investment products and portfolios.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide support on ad hoc projects, initiatives, and operational tasks as required by the business.
  • Ensure that new projects and product implementations align with financial reporting, management reporting, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain accounting specifications and reporting requirements for new business products and initiatives.
  • Support audit processes by liaising with internal and external auditors and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with operations teams and external service providers to ensure the completeness, accuracy, and integrity of authorised custodian and direct fund holdings data for reporting purposes.

Team Effectiveness

  • Drive process improvements and simplification in the area of accounting.
  • This includes automation projects and the preparation and maintenance of detailed workflows.
  • Effective time-management.
  • Individually accountable for tasks and output timeliness and quality.
  • Enhance and improve group collaboration efforts.

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Bachelor's degree, Advanced Diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Completed SAICA articles
  • CA(SA) preferred, not essential
  • 2-4 years relevant years of experience within financial services
  • Oracle financials experience would be beneficial
  • Advanced Excel skills would be beneficial
  • Power BI skill advantageous.
  • Exposure to multi-currency environments is advantageous.
