The position oversees Quality Inspectors, Quality Technicians, End-of-Line (EOL) Testers, Stator Testers, Incoming Inspection, and Gage Lab activities, ensuring consistent execution of inspection and testing processes across manufacturing operations.
The Quality Control Supervisor maintains a strong presence on the manufacturing floor, provides timely support to Production, prioritizes inspection activities, and drives effective containment, documentation, and escalation of nonconforming materials and products.
The position works closely with Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials, Maintenance, and other departments to prevent defects, resolve day-to-day quality issues, and improve process discipline.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on frontline leader focused on coaching inspectors, developing technical competencies, standardizing inspection practices, establishing clear accountability, and building a responsive, reliable Quality Control team.
Major Responsibilities:
Daily Quality Control & Production Support
• Lead and organize daily inspection activities based on production priorities, staffing, workload, and quality risks.
• Ensure timely incoming, in-process, and final inspections, as applicable, without compromising established quality requirements.
• Provide immediate shop-floor support to Production when inspection results, product conditions, or process deviations require decisions.
• Coordinate inspection priorities with Production, Planning, Materials, and Quality Engineering to minimize avoidable delays.
• Ensure inspectors use current drawings, specifications, inspection plans, work instructions, and acceptance criteria.
• Maintain daily follow-up on open inspection items, quality holds, rework verification, and pending dispositions.
• Oversee daily End-of-Line (EOL) and Stator testing activities, ensuring tests are performed according to approved procedures, specifications, and production requirements.
• Coordinate Quality Technicians and Inspectors supporting Assembly, Subassembly, and production lines to ensure timely identification and resolution of quality issues.
• Ensure Incoming Inspection activities are prioritized and completed in coordination with Materials and Purchasing to prevent unnecessary delays in material availability.
Inspector Leadership, Training & Development
• Lead, coach, and develop Quality Inspectors through regular floor engagement, feedback, and structured follow-up.
• Establish clear responsibilities, expectations, daily priorities, and accountability for each inspector.
• Assess inspector capabilities and maintain skills matrices, cross-training plans, and qualification records.
• Coordinate technical training with Quality Engineering and other qualified specialists on drawings, measurement methods, inspection standards, and product knowledge.
• Promote consistent interpretation of inspection criteria and verification of inspector competency.
• Develop team versatility and succession coverage to support changing production needs and multiple shifts.
• Develop structured training and qualification plans for Quality Inspectors, Quality Technicians, EOL Testers, and Stator Testers, ensuring consistent technical competencies across shifts.
• Work closely with the Lead Inspector to standardize inspection practices, provide technical guidance, and support the development of less experienced inspectors.
Inspection Standards, Equipment & Documentation
• Implement and maintain standard inspection routines, checklists, sampling instructions, and required inspection records.
• Ensure inspection results are documented accurately, completely, and with appropriate traceability.
• Confirm measuring and test equipment is suitable, available, handled correctly, and within required calibration status.
• Coordinate with Quality Engineering and Metrology on inspection methods, gage issues, and technical questions.
• Identify opportunities to improve inspection efficiency, consistency, visual controls, and record organization.
• Oversee daily Gage Lab activities, ensuring measuring instruments are properly controlled, calibration requirements are monitored, and equipment is available to support manufacturing and inspection needs.
Nonconforming Material & Problem Resolution
• Ensure suspect or nonconforming materials and products are properly identified, segregated, documented, and controlled.
• Coordinate containment activities and prompt communication of quality issues to affected production and support teams.
• Support investigations and root cause analysis with Quality Engineering, Production, and other process owners.
• Follow up on rework, sorting, retesting, and verification activities according to approved dispositions.
• Escalate recurring defects, significant quality risks, and matters requiring engineering or management decisions.
• Do not authorize deviations, concessions, or engineering dispositions outside delegated authority.
KPIs, Daily Management & Continuous Improvement
• Conduct daily team reviews of inspection workload, open quality issues, priorities, and follow-up actions.
• Monitor operational indicators such as inspection turnaround, backlog, defect trends, rework verification, and inspector qualification progress.
• Support improvements in first-pass yield, defect prevention, inspection productivity, and responsiveness to Production.
• Use data and shop-floor observations to identify recurring problems and implement corrective actions within the team’s scope.
• Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, safety, discipline, constructive feedback, and continuous improvement.
• Monitor and report quality performance indicators related to EOL and Stator testing, inspection effectiveness, defect trends, rework, and testing-related production delays.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Accountability
• Maintain close daily communication with Production Supervisors, Quality Engineering, Materials, Manufacturing Engineering, and Maintenance.
• Clarify the division of responsibilities: Quality Control executes and documents inspections and containment; Quality Engineering owns technical quality methods, investigations, and formal dispositions as assigned.
• Support internal and customer audits by providing accurate inspection records and evidence of inspector training.
• Escalate unresolved technical, product acceptance, and systemic quality issues to the Quality Manager.
• Support new product introductions, process changes, and production ramp-up through inspection readiness and team training.
