We’re hiring multiple Capital Project Manager II professionals to drive impactful park, trail, and facility improvements across the region. If you’re passionate about building sustainable, equitable public spaces and thrive on complex, community focused projects, this is your chance to make a lasting difference.

About the Role:

The Capital Project Manager II (CPM II) is the second level in the four-tier Capital Project Manager classification series and is responsible for delivering projects of varying complexity and risk from initial planning through closeout. The work includes design and support of Parks capital projects throughout the division such as fish passages, drainage, regional trails, parks facilities, bridges and trestles, structures, sports fields, demolitions, utilities, and parking lots. This position will involve design and review, developing design standards, and coordinating projects with operations and maintenance staff.

These positions offer exceptional opportunities to strengthen and expand your collaborative, technical, organizational, and customer service skills while contributing to meaningful capital improvements. We are seeking highly engaged, focused, and motivated self-starters with strong engineering skills, project management and communication abilities who want to help enhance the quality of life for King County residents and the beauty of our parks and trails.

Ideal candidates are strong problem solvers, results oriented, creative, and organized team players. This position follows a hybrid work model, blending remote and in-person work.

The Capital Improvement Program (CIP) section provides strategic direction, oversight, and delivery of capital projects. It includes planning, designing, developing, and constructing Parks’ capital portfolio of projects and programs, performing comprehensive capital project management of major repair/renovation projects system wide, regional trail development, and other new capital improvements within the park and open space system while also collecting, managing, and stewarding the asset data within the County’s 32,000-acre system of parks and trails.

The Engineering Unit within the CIP Section consists of Project Managers and Engineers that are typically, but not exclusively, licensed Professional Engineers or Engineers in Training. They manage the planning, design, construction, and closeout phases of medium to large projects that are major maintenance and new construction projects. Projects are designed in-house or through A/E Professional Consultant contracts and built through advertised construction contracts.

While each team has a specific focus, the unit as a whole supports a wide range of project types and work, including: fish passage improvements, demolition, synthetic ballfield turf replacement, ballfield and sport court rehabilitation, stormwater and drainage rehabilitation, regional trail repairs and asset improvements, bridge and trestle repairs and rehabilitation, roadway improvements, utilities repairs and rehabilitation, infrastructure rehabilitation, emergent and emergency response. The unit also develops park and trail standards, reviews of other agencies and special use permits, and more.
