Description
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Position Overview
The Program Manager owns the commercial results of a Retail Specialist program for the Bacardí portfolio in the off-premise channel. They lead a multi-market team of Retail Specialists, turn volume and depletion data into clear actions for the field, and are the day-to-day lead with the client.
This is a commercial role. Success is measured in cases, distribution, and rate of sale in the accounts the team covers, not in activity completed. The right person reads a volume report and knows what the team should do differently on Monday, then makes sure it happens.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial performance and analysis
- Own program KPIs across the account footprint: volume (cases), points of distribution, rate of sale, and display and feature execution.
- Pull and analyze volume and depletion reports on a regular cadence. Identify trends by market, account, and SKU: what is growing, what is slipping, and where distribution is missing.
- Turn findings into specific field actions: which accounts to prioritize, which SKUs to sell in, where to push displays, and where to shift hours. Follow up to confirm execution and measure the impact.
- Build account and market plans with each Retail Specialist and set individual targets.
- Spot new opportunities (accounts, SKUs, seasonal moments, competitive gaps) and bring them to the Director and client with a clear recommendation.
Client leadership
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for Bacardí brand, customer marketing, and sales teams, and for distributor partners.
- Lead status calls, monthly highlights, and quarterly business reviews. Tell a clear story of what the program delivered, what it learned, and what comes next.
- Come to the client with ideas, not just updates. Anticipate needs and solve problems before they escalate.
- Present the program’s capabilities to brand, sales, and local market teams to build support and grow the program’s role in the business.
- Contribute to program renewal and growth by documenting results and identifying where the program can expand.
Field team leadership
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and retain Retail Specialists across multiple markets.
- Coach the team on commercial skills: account conversations, sell-in, merchandising, and working alongside distributor reps.
- Spend time in market with the team through work-withs and account visits.
- Set clear expectations and hold the team accountable through scorecards, regular one-on-ones, and direct performance management.
- Build strong relationships with local Bacardí and distributor teams so Retail Specialists are part of each market’s plan.
Program operations
- Manage schedules, hours, and program budget against plan; flag variances early.
- Ensure field reporting is complete, accurate, and on time (GoSpotCheck, Weekly Action Report, Smartsheet).
- Manage giveaway and POS inventory, and ensure compliance with state alcohol regulations and company policies.
- Build client-ready presentations, recaps, and program reports independently.
How Success Is Measured
- Volume and distribution growth in covered accounts, against plan and against non-covered accounts
- Execution quality: account coverage, display and feature compliance, reporting accuracy
- Team performance and retention
- Client satisfaction, program renewal, and growth in scope
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years in beverage alcohol, CPG, or field sales, including at least 2 years managing a field team (remote and multi-market preferred).
- Working knowledge of the off-premise channel and the three-tier system: how distributors sell, how chains and independents buy, and what drives depletions.
- Advanced Excel: pivot tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and building trackers and charts from raw data exports. Comfortable working with large data sets.
- Strong PowerPoint: builds clear, client-ready decks independently and turns data into a story.
- Experience with depletion and sales data (e.g., VIP, iDIG, Nielsen or Circana) preferred; Power BI a plus.
- Proven client-facing experience, including presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing a program budget.
- Familiarity with field reporting and scheduling tools (GoSpotCheck, Smartsheet, or similar).
- Ability to travel to markets regularly (approximately 30%).
WAYS TO STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD
Who Thrives in This Role
- Commercial instinct. Thinks commercially. Talks in cases and accounts, and asks “so what?” of every number.
- Treats the program like their own business and the results like their own scorecard.
- Clear communication. Can explain a trend in two sentences to a client and to a Retail Specialist.
- Stays steady in ambiguity and fixes problems before the client sees them.
- Makes the people around them better, and gives direct feedback early.
