Hampton Lumber’s Warrenton mill is hiring an industrial millwright or millwright apprentice to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve mechanical equipment throughout the site. The role works directly with production equipment and supports safe, reliable operation of the mill.

The successful candidate does not need to arrive with every skill listed. Placement and starting responsibilities will match demonstrated experience, mechanical ability, and training needs. Apprentices work alongside experienced millwrights while building the skills required to perform work independently.

Benefits Highlights

  • Substantial company-paid assistance for Medical and Dental insurance premiums; mental health coverage; cost effective co-pays and deductibles
  • 401(k) with 5% annual company contribution and generous company matching contributions vested over three years
  • Paid time off, including eight paid holidays
  • Opportunity to earn bonuses
  • Employee wellness program that includes free counseling sessions, financial and legal guidance, and more
  • Opportunities for paid training to support career advancement and personal development

Responsibilities

  • • Work safely and follow all company requirements for lockout/tagout, fall protection, hot work, fire watch, mobile equipment, personal protective equipment, and job-site control.• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, align, and maintain mechanical equipment used in lumber manufacturing.• Work with bearings, shafts, chains, sprockets, belts, sheaves, gearboxes, conveyors, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, pumps, and related components.• Use hand tools, power tools, measuring tools, lifting and rigging equipment, and welding or fabrication equipment within demonstrated qualification.• Assist with breakdown response, planned repairs, preventive maintenance, condition checks, lubrication, and equipment improvement work.• Read work orders, equipment information, part numbers, measurements, gauges, and maintenance notes. Record completed work and communicate equipment condition clearly.• Plan work before starting: identify hazards, verify parts and tools, coordinate assistance, protect nearby equipment, and leave the machine and surrounding area clean and ready for operation.• Work with production employees, electricians, oilers, carpenters, contractors, and other maintenance personnel as the work requires.• Operate or learn to operate forklifts, manlifts, loaders, skid steers, boom trucks, cranes, and other site equipment after authorization and training.• Work assigned overtime and alternate shifts when required to complete repairs or support mill operations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Preventive or predictive maintenance experience
  • Basic electrical or PLC awareness for mechanical troubleshooting
  • Experience in sawmills, wood-products plants, or other heavy industrial facilities

More About Us

Hampton took over management of the Warrenton plant in 2010, however, this site has had a sawmill on it since 1921. We currently employ 140 people, some of which have worked here for over 30 years while others have just started their careers. This creates an incredible team of skilled problem-solvers who work together to continuously improve in all areas within the plant-site. Warrenton employees live out the company’s deep commitment to people, community, and sustainability—the heart of Hampton’s company culture—by supporting organizations such as 4H, Girls Build, Robotics Club, and the Clatsop Works Internship program.
