Job Description:
About Epiq AI Labs
Epiq AI Labs, established by Epiq in 2025, brings together builders, researchers, academics, legal professionals, and industry leaders to advance AI for complex legal and corporate challenges. Its work includes foundational AI research, large-scale data analysis, collaborative development of practical solutions, and AI education. Alongside research, the Labs leads the development of Epiq’s flagship AI platform—the foundation for AI-powered workflows across litigation, compliance, antitrust, and other complex legal and corporate matters.
About the Role
As our Legal Solutions Engineer, you’ll be the legal expert on every deal. You’ll partner with the Sales team to understand a prospect’s legal work, show how our platform fits it, and define what a proof of concept (POC) needs to prove. You’ll work with general counsel, law firm partners, and other decision makers across many prospects at once.
You’ll lead the legal conversation and the demo; the Sales team handles pricing and the commercial pitch. When a deal moves into a POC, you’ll hand it to a Forward-Deployed Legal Engineer. When a client wants to expand, you’ll scope the next use case or practice group. You’ll work from our New York office and serve clients in every region, including EMEA and APAC.
What You’ll Do
- Legal Discovery: Lead discovery with prospects, alongside the Sales team and Epiq Global account directors, to uncover each prospect’s legal problem and use case.
- Tailored Demos: Build demos, presentations, and legal materials that reflect each prospect’s practice area and data, and make complex ideas easy to follow.
- Legal Analysis: Connect each prospect’s legal obligations and workflows to what the platform can do.
- POC Design: Set success criteria and write POC plans covering the use case, stakeholders, data, and timeline.
- Clean Handoffs: Hand each client to a Forward-Deployed Legal Engineer at POC kickoff.
- Expansion Scoping: Scope new use cases and practice groups with the Sales team and Customer Success Managers.
- Trusted Advice: Give decision makers straight answers about what AI can and cannot do for their work.
What You Bring
- A US JD, or a US LLM with a foreign law degree, and active or prior US bar membership.
- 2–8+ years of legal practice, with client-facing or legal-tech sales experience.
- Credibility with partners and general counsel, and comfort presenting and scoping.
- The ability to explain complex legal concepts in plain terms.
- The ability to translate a legal team’s workflow into what the product must prove in a POC.
- Strong discovery skills: you ask the right questions, listen well, and connect what you hear to what the platform can do.
- Working knowledge of the tools of legal practice, such as Relativity, DISCO, iManage, Westlaw, and Lexis.
- Daily use of AI in your own work, with examples you can walk through in interviews.
- Composure when facing hard questions live, and sound judgment with incomplete information.
- The organization to manage many prospects at once, often on short notice.
Nice to Have
- eDiscovery or litigation-support background.
- Experience writing POC success criteria.
- Prior sales engineering, solutions consulting, or advisory experience.
- Experience at an early-stage company.
What Success Looks Like
- Prospects understand the platform’s value after one session with you and move into a POC.
- Your POC plans and success criteria give each POC a clean start.
- Sales cycles move faster with you in the room.
