The Government Relations and Public Affairs (GPA) team plays a crucial role in shaping and influencing public policy, legislation, and regulation to protect and enhance Teachers' interests. Some of the key responsibilities for the GPA team include policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring and analysis of political and regulatory development. Overall, the government relations team acts as a trusted advisor, proactively engaging with governments to protect and enhance the organization's reputation and returns.

Who you'll work with 

The Government and Public Affairs (GPA) team engages with governments to advance Teachers’ interests, focusing on building relationships with officials and advocating for policies that impact its operations. This includes advising portfolio companies and senior leaders on government interactions to support strategic objectives. Additionally, the organization collaborates on initiatives like the energy transition, emphasizing the importance of regulatory stability and community engagement in infrastructure projects. Based in Toronto, you will work closely with your GPA colleagues in Toronto and London to help further key strategic priorities and relationships.  

What you'll do 

  • Support the GPA team’s efforts in providing recommendations on key strategic initiatives by assisting the GPA team in gathering and analyzing internal and external resources. 
  • Prepare clear and concise presentation materials, memos, and briefing notes for senior leadership, distilling research into simple to understand presentation materials.
  • Connect with various asset classes/regions and functional partners to capture input to support strategic initiatives and solicit feedback.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and provide recommendations as to how they may impact the Fund. 
  • Support the GPA team’s development, cultivation, and overall coordination of key internal and external relationships for the Fund. 
  • Attend meetings with Government stakeholders. 

What you'll need 

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s degree; a focus on economics, business, political science or global affairs is an asset 
  • Keen interest in politics and policymaking. 
  • Curiosity about, and understanding of, the investment industry, global politics, and/or economic affairs 
  • Curiosity about, and willingness to take on, strategic challenges facing Teachers’ 
  • Ability to work independently and self-start, as well as to perform optimally in a collaborative and dynamic environment 
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), with a strong attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office applications 
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity
