Position Overview:
The Divisional Product Merchant is responsible for executing the merchandising objectives for a class/subclass of merchandise. This role involves making critical buying decisions, negotiating terms with suppliers, and driving item selection and pricing, with a focus on both in-store and online channels. Merchants are responsible for selecting the best products, ensuring they are available at the right price and in sufficient quantities to meet customer needs. They work closely with store leaders, associates, suppliers, and cross functional partners to make informed business decisions. Merchants play a crucial role in driving the company’s success by managing product selection, analyzing and managing financial performance, and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute interconnected category strategy that is informed by customer insights and delivers the optimal experience in-store & online
- Manage the sales and financial results of a category portfolio to achieve sales, profitability and inventory turn targets; analyze results and develop business plans to drive growth and address opportunities in-store and online
- Build an assortment plan by channel, develop a pricing strategy, source the product and negotiate with suppliers to obtain the best possible terms and conditions to achieve business goals
- Manage vendor performance and interconnected portfolio reviews.
- Scan business and industry-wide trends, competitive landscape and consumer insights, and attend relevant trade shows to inform category strategy
- Lead a cross-functional team of support partners including logistics/Fulfillment/Inventory managers, Finance, Marketing, User Experience (UX), etc.

Direct Manager/Direct Reports:

Travel Requirements:
- Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 10% of the time
- Travel to Home Depot stores, innovation centre and vendor facilities
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles
Working Conditions:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable
Minimum Education:
- A Bachelor's degree or Equivalent Work Experience
Minimum Years of Work Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience (ideally in a retail environment) with emphasis on purchasing and buy
Minimum Leadership Experience:
- 2 years of leadership experience
