ROLE SUMMARY

The Scope Technician assesses equipment problems, arranges quotations and ensures replacement, maintenance and repairs of scope equipment.

KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

CONSISTENCY OF CARE

Repair and maintenance of equipment

  • Ensure replacement, maintenance and repair of scopes are done within the confines of the budget
  • Arrange quotations for replacements and repairs
  • Ensure equipment complies to safety and medico-legal requirements
  • Assess equipment problems related to incorrect application or use and assess the need for repair
  • Arrange first line repairs if unable to attend to personally
  • Coordinate the movement of equipment to and from the theatre department
  • Check and repair equipment (scope) pre and post operatively
  • First line problem solving of equipment while being utilized on patient
  • Coordinate scope usage, repairs, and maintenance

SKILLS PROFILE

EDUCATION

Essential

  • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification
