Alaska Village Electric Cooperative is seeking a dependable, customer-focused Member Services Representative (MSR) to join our Member Services team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for more than just a customer service job. There is significant room to learn, develop new skills, take on additional responsibilities, and grow within the department. MSRs receive cross-training in multiple areas of electric utility operations, allowing employees to build expertise and expand their responsibilities over time.

What You'll Do

As an MSR, you'll serve as a primary point of contact for AVEC members while supporting the day-to-day operations of the Cooperative. Responsibilities may include:

• Assisting members by phone, email, and in person
• Establishing new electric service and processing account changes
• Processing connects, disconnects, meter changes, and service requests
• Processing payments and maintaining accurate and confidential member account information
• Assisting members with online account access and troubleshooting
• Supporting collections and payment arrangements
• Coordinating with billing, metering, operations, and other departments

Opportunity to Grow

As you gain experience, you'll have opportunities to cross-train and develop specialized skills in areas such as:

Utility Billing & Accounts Receivable - Prebilling, monthly billing, billing corrections, account reconciliation, reporting, and rate administration

Collections - Delinquent account management, payment arrangements, disconnect-for-nonpayment processes, and account write-offs

Membership & Metering - Service changes, meter activity, account setup, rate classifications, and energy usage inquiries

Patronage Capital - Capital credit records, estate claims, refunds, and member assistance

Annual Meetings & Cooperative Programs - Village meetings, delegate coordination, scholarships, Board support, and other member programs

You don't need to know everything on day one. We're looking for someone with a strong foundation, attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and an interest in developing broader skills and responsibilities over time.

What You'll Bring

• High school diploma or GED
• Previous customer service, administrative, accounts receivable, billing, or related experience
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn new systems
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to organize priorities and meet deadlines
• Professionalism and composure when assisting members in difficult situations
• Dependability, punctuality, and consistent attendance
• Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn

Experience in accounts receivable, utility billing, collections, or customer service is preferred, but we also value candidates with transferable skills and the desire to grow.

Rewards

We offer a comprehensive pay and benefit package.  Highlights include starting pay around $26 per hour depending on experience.  401k Plan with Employer Match and Retirement Pension Plan, Paid Leave (PTO) starting at 21 days per year and up to 6 weeks maximum, 8 paid Holidays plus 2 Floating Holidays, and a Birthday Holiday.
