Community Relations Intern

This internship offers an enriching experience for individuals seeking personal and professional growth by making a tangible impact and developing essential skills in community building and relationship management.

Under general supervision, assists with the development and implementation of community outreach initiatives, events, and programs to support the Town’s mission and values.  This position is classified as non-exempt and is subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime regulations.PRIMARY TASKS: 
 

• Creates engaging social media content and campaigns across Town platforms.
• Captures and edits photography and videography for social media, newsletters, websites and other Town communications.
• Designs graphics, flyers, digital content, and other visual materials using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
• Assists in the marketing, preparation, and delivery of Knightdale special events.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED: Computer with Microsoft Office applications, copier, scanner, and other assigned equipment.
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to the Community Relations Director.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS: 

• This position is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operations functions of fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to perform sedentary work, occasionally exerting 10 pounds of force.
• Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform transcription, operate a personal computer, and perform extensive reading.

 

JOB CONTEXT: This position is a 12-week internship, totaling a minimum of 120 hours, with a schedule determined by the Community Relations Director.  Evenings and weekends are sometimes necessary to fulfill job duties. This position is classified as limited service.  Limited service employees work less than 1,000 hours per year.  The stress level of this job is low.

QUALIFICATIONS OF CLASS:

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or GED program required. Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in  communications, marketing, public administration, business administration, or other related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town employees and the public. 
• Ability to work independently and part of a team.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and a positive attitude.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid driver’s license.
