Veterinarian (Medical Director) – Monrovia, CA

 

A veterinary practice is seeking an experienced Medical Director to provide clinical leadership while continuing to practice hands-on medicine. This role is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys mentoring colleagues, supporting a strong clinical team, and maintaining high standards of patient care.

 

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive veterinary care, including examinations, diagnostics, treatment, surgery, and dentistry as appropriate.
• Serve as the medical leader of the practice and help maintain high standards of clinical care.
• Mentor, coach, and support associate veterinarians and other clinical team members.
• Provide guidance on medical cases, treatment plans, and client communication.
• Review medical records and promote accurate and consistent documentation.
• Lead or participate in doctor meetings, case discussions, and continuing education activities.
• Promote a positive, collaborative, and professional team environment.
• Work with practice management to support efficient scheduling, workflows, inventory, equipment, and daily operations.
• Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and developing veterinary team members.
• Ensure compliance with applicable veterinary, safety, controlled-substance, and regulatory requirements.
• Support client education, community outreach, and initiatives that promote quality patient care.
• Stay current with developments in veterinary medicine and maintain professional knowledge and skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary program.
• Active veterinary license in good standing.
• Current DEA registration or ability to obtain one, when required.
• Additional licenses, certifications, or registrations as required for the position.
• Several years of experience practicing veterinary medicine.
• Previous leadership or team-management experience preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment and communication skills.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal abilities.
• Commitment to compassionate, high-quality patient care.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
