Summer 2027 Intern – IT Cybersecurity

An internship with our company is a great opportunity to build your skillset and explore your career interests. Our summer student internship is a 10-to-14-week program that starts in mid-May and ends in August. During your internship, you'll work on impactful projects that make a difference at our company, with our customers, and in our communities.

You'll also gain exposure to different areas of our business and have numerous opportunities for networking and coaching.

Interns may be eligible for a one-time hiring bonus to assist with housing costs depending upon proximity to a company office location.

Compensation Minimum: $25.00
Compensation Maximum: $39.00

As an IT Cybersecurity Intern, you will:

Join our Cybersecurity Innovation & Research team, supporting efforts to strengthen enterprise vulnerability management, cyber defense capabilities, and AI-driven security solutions. You will work alongside cybersecurity professionals to explore emerging technologies, research innovative approaches to security challenges, and help identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of vulnerability detection and response processes.

This internship provides hands-on experience working on strategic cybersecurity initiatives that focus on scaling security capabilities, enhancing threat visibility, and leveraging artificial intelligence to create meaningful business value across the organization.

Primary Accountabilities

• Develop an understanding of our business, corporate culture, and structure to support your work.

• Contribute creative ideas and strategic approaches in response to changing situations.

• Research emerging cybersecurity trends, technologies, and threat landscapes to identify opportunities for innovation.

• Assist with initiatives focused on Enterprise Vulnerability Management (EVM) and Continuous Detection technologies to improve security monitoring and remediation capabilities.

• Explore and evaluate AI-driven solutions that enhance cybersecurity operations, vulnerability identification, and threat detection.

• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams and business partners to analyze complex security challenges and recommend scalable solutions.

• Support projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, expanding security capabilities, and strengthening our overall cyber defense posture.

• Present findings, recommendations, and project outcomes to team members and stakeholders.

Requirements
• Must be in student status at an accredited 4-year college or university during the internship, graduating August 2027 or later.

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD.

• Major/program must align with internship role.

• Pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.

• Interest in cybersecurity operations, vulnerability management, threat detection, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.

• Fundamental understanding of cybersecurity concepts, including vulnerabilities, risk management, threat intelligence, or network security.

• Familiarity with scripting, automation, data analysis, or programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, Java, or similar technologies preferred.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, research, and communication skills.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Additional Information

• To ensure a strong start, all employees participate in our New Employee Orientation during their first week.  This experience is held in person at our Madison, WI Headquarters or one of our AmFam core locations to help you connect with our mission, meet key team members and build relationships that support your growth.  At times, sessions may be delivered virtually based on scheduling and availability.
