The Director of RCM Project Management Office (PMO) provides strategic and operational leadership for the Enterprise Revenue Cycle project portfolio and is responsible for translating organizational priorities into a governed, prioritized, adequately resourced, and measurable portfolio of initiatives.
This position provides leadership and oversight for portfolio governance, project prioritization, PMO standards, resource and capacity planning, executive reporting, risk management, benefits realization, and delivery of complex revenue cycle, technology, digital transformation, operational improvement, and integration initiatives. The Director leads PMO professionals and partners with executive, operational, clinical, financial, and technical leaders to ensure initiatives are aligned with organizational priorities and achieve measurable outcomes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, Health Informatics, Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, Finance, Engineering, Project Management, or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Ten (10) years of progressive experience in project, program, portfolio, transformation, healthcare operations, or technology delivery.

2. Five (5) years of leadership experience managing project management professionals, a PMO, major programs, or a comparable enterprise delivery function.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Health Informatics, Information Technology, Finance, Project Management, or a related field.

2. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

1. Provides strategic leadership for the Enterprise Revenue Cycle project, program, and transformation portfolio, ensuring initiatives are aligned with organizational, financial, operational, regulatory, and technology priorities.

2. Establishes and leads portfolio governance, including project intake, business case review, prioritization, sequencing, approval, stage-gate, escalation, and closure processes.

3. Advises executive leadership regarding project investment, prioritization, resource allocation, acceleration, redesign, deferral, or termination based on strategic value, organizational readiness, risk, complexity, capacity, and expected outcomes.

4. Develops, implements, and continuously improves PMO methodologies, standards, tools, templates, dashboards, reporting processes, project controls, and performance measures to support consistent and effective project delivery.

5. Oversees complex, high-risk, cross-functional, multi-facility, and enterprise-critical programs from planning through implementation, stabilization, benefits validation, and closure.

6. Monitors portfolio and project performance, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, resources, risks, issues, dependencies, readiness, adoption, and benefits realization; identifies and facilitates recovery plans when performance is at risk.

7. Directs and supports transformation initiatives across the hospital and professional revenue cycle continuum, including patient access, clinical documentation, coding, charge capture, revenue integrity, billing, accounts receivable, denials, reimbursement, customer service, and patient financial services.

8. Partners with Revenue Cycle, Finance, Compliance, HIM, Coding, Clinical Operations, Patient Access, Patient Financial Services, Revenue Integrity, Information Technology, and other stakeholders to coordinate initiatives that impact operations, technology, documentation, reimbursement, or patient communications.

9. Provides governance and oversight for Revenue Cycle technology, digital transformation, automation, analytics, interoperability, system implementations, upgrades, integrations, migrations, optimization efforts, and technology-enabled process improvement.

10. Oversees Revenue Cycle vendor implementations and transitions, including requirements, implementation planning, deliverables, service expectations, data dependencies, testing, security review, financial commitments, and value realization.

11. Develops and maintains executive-level portfolio reporting and communicates project health, risks, dependencies, resource constraints, decisions, financial impact, and progress toward expected outcomes.

12. Leads, coaches, and develops project managers, program managers, PMO analysts, project coordinators, and other assigned team members; establishes performance expectations, development plans, career pathways, and succession plans.

13. Promotes a high-performing culture focused on service, integrity, accountability, collaboration, inclusion, continuous improvement, and measurable value.

14. Builds organizational project, program, portfolio, and change management capability through coaching, consultation, training, standards, and development of reusable tools and practices.

SKILLS & ABILILTIES:


1. Advanced knowledge of portfolio, program, and project governance and project management methodologies.

2. Strong understanding of end-to-end healthcare revenue cycle operations and related technology environments.

3. Strong financial acumen, including business cases, budgets, forecasts, return on investment, resource planning, and benefits realization.

4. Excellent executive-level communication, facilitation, presentation, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.

5. Ability to translate strategy into executable roadmaps, prioritize competing initiatives, and drive measurable outcomes.

6. Ability to lead through influence and build effective partnerships across executive, operational, clinical, financial, and technical stakeholder groups.

7. Advanced ability to assess and manage risk, issues, dependencies, change control, stakeholder readiness, adoption, and sustainment.

8. Demonstrated judgment, integrity, discretion, emotional intelligence, and accountability.
