SUMMARY
This position is based in the General Services Landscape Management Cemeteries section and is responsible for operating equipment and coordinating its use in the day to day operations of a cemetery. This is primarily an outdoor position with manual labor required.We are offering a $2,000 sign on bonus for this position.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Operates backhoe, dump truck, tractor, tamp and air compressor for opening and closing grave sites, repair sunken graves, markers, flower vases and existing landscaping on cemetery grounds.
- Installs markers, digs trenches, pours concrete and finishes monument foundations.
- Performs minor repairs and routine maintenance on assigned equipment and vehicles.
- Assists families and individuals in showing at need and pre-need spaces and locate occupied graves.
- Assume lead worker responsibilities in the absence of crew chief.
- Work independently and as a team to meet or exceed City goals and expectations.
- Completes all required forms to provide information concerning daily work activities.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read, write, and understand moderately complex oral and written instructions.
- Ability to properly and safely operate machinery
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor for extended periods of time.
- Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with coworkers and the public.
- Ability to read and understand schedules, repair manuals, data sheets, graphs, maps, and determine exact locations of grave sites.
- Ability to work Saturday, Sunday, Holiday schedules and late weekday services as needed.
- Ability to work outside in adverse weather and environmental conditions (rain, heat, cold, stinging/biting insects, chemicals, fumes, noise, etc.)
- Must have basic mechanical ability and the ability to perform thorough inspections of assigned equipment and detect the need for repairs or service.
- Must have valid North Carolina Class A CDL driver’s license, or ability to obtain within 6 months, plus a good driving record.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proficiency and experience in the safe operation of a backhoe, dump truck, tractor, tamp, and air compressor.
- Prefer previous cemetery operations work experience.
- HS graduate or equivalent
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
