RF Access Specialist

Join our Networks team as an RF Access Specialist in Plattekloof, where you'll define, maintain and support RF network standards while providing expert level troubleshooting and planning support for large scale wireless projects.

What you'll do:

• Develop, document and enforce RF configuration standards for PtMP and PtP wireless equipment
• Maintain a centralised library of approved RF configuration templates and best practices
• Perform regular audits to ensure compliance with defined standards
• Act as the primary escalation point for complex RF incidents and performance issues
• Conduct in depth root cause analysis on critical RF issues and provide clear findings and actionable recommendations
• Conduct regular analytics for PtMP and PtP links to proactively identify and mitigate RF performance issues
• Perform spectrum analysis to manage frequency usage, detect interference and optimise channel planning
• Proactively monitor RF performance indicators such as signal to noise ratio, link uptime and throughput
• Assist in planning and designing large scale RF deployments, upgrades and network expansions
• Create accurate link budgets, frequency plans and predictive coverage maps
• Provide technical input on hardware selection and vendor assessments
• Deliver detailed RF training sessions to engineers and technical staff, covering equipment, standards and troubleshooting methodologies
• Ensure effective communication and coordination across the NOC, Access Network teams and field operations
• Maintain RF standards documentation, troubleshooting reports, analytics reports, planning documentation and training materials

What you'll need:

• Grade 12 Certificate
• A minimum of 3 years experience in an RF focused role within telecommunications
• Proven experience in RF network planning, troubleshooting and analytics
• Advanced understanding of RF fundamentals, including propagation, modulation, interference management and antenna theory
• Strong expertise in configuring, deploying and troubleshooting major RF equipment vendors
• Proficiency in RF planning and analysis tools such as Cambium LINKPlanner, Ubiquiti AirLink and spectrum analyzers
• Skill in network protocols and monitoring practices such as TCP/IP, SNMP, ICMP, Zabbix and Grafana
• Advanced analytical and problem solving skills
• Strong numerical and data management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex RF concepts
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
• A relevant tertiary qualification such as Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Telecommunications is advantageous
• Vendor specific RF certifications such as Cambium, Ubiquiti or MikroTik are advantageous
• Additional network certifications such as MTCNA or CCNA Wireless are advantageous
