The YMCA of Broome County is hiring a Part-Time Security Officer for our residential housing program in Binghamton, NY. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents, staff and visitors through regular security patrols, monitoring of the building, incident response, conflict de-escalation and accurate reporting. Our internal title for this position is Resident Support Officer.
Available Shifts
We are currently hiring for the following part-time schedules:
- Monday–Tuesday: 4:00 PM–12:30 AM
- Saturday–Sunday: 8:15 AM–4:45 PM
- Saturday–Sunday: 10:00 PM–6:30 AM
What you'll do
As a Security Officer with the YMCA of Broome County, you will help maintain the safety, security and well-being of residents, visitors, staff and the facility. Responsibilities include:
- Conduct regular security patrols throughout assigned areas of the building and property.
- Maintain a visible security presence and help ensure compliance with YMCA rules and building standards.
- Monitor the safety and security of residents, visitors, employees and YMCA property.
- Respond appropriately to incidents, safety concerns and unusual activity.
- Use conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques when working with residents.
- Prepare clear and detailed incident reports.
- Maintain accurate daily security and program documentation.
- Protect confidential and sensitive information.
- Help maintain a safe, respectful and substance-free residential environment.
- Support residents professionally while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Training and Certifications
The YMCA provides valuable training and certification opportunities for this position, including:
- Security Certification
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention Certification
- Narcan Certification
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Dependable and able to maintain a professional presence in a residential environment
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office
- A genuine interest in helping others
- Experience working with individuals with mental health, physical health or substance-use challenges is preferred
