Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Safety, Health, Environment, and Compliance: 

·       Promote a safety-first culture and ensure all employees work in compliance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements.

·       Lead safety meetings, workplace inspections, hazard recognition activities, and corrective action initiatives.

·       Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and implement preventive measures.

·       Ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulatory requirements, ISO standards, and company policies.

·       Support and promote all Quality, Safety, Health, Environmental, and Sustainability programs.

 

Production and Operations Leadership: 

·       Direct and coordinate daily plant operations to achieve production, quality, efficiency, and cost objectives.

·       Monitor and optimize furnace operations, expansion processes, packaging systems, and material handling equipment.

·       Establish daily production priorities and communicate expectations to operations personnel.

·       Monitor production rates, yields, downtime, quality performance, and operating costs.

·       Ensure customer orders are produced and shipped according to schedule.

·       Coordinate shift coverage, staffing plans, and operating schedules to support business needs.

·       Develop and implement operational improvements to increase efficiency and productivity.

 

Quality Management:

·       Ensure all products meet established quality specifications and customer requirements.

·       Monitor process controls, testing activities, and quality performance trends.

·       Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to product quality issues.

·       Work closely with quality personnel to maintain compliance with internal and external quality standards.

 

Equipment Reliability and Maintenance Coordination: 

·       Partner with Maintenance to prioritize and coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

·       Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and uptime.

·       Participate in troubleshooting production and equipment issues.

·       Support capital projects, equipment modifications, and process improvement initiatives.

·       Ensure operational readiness of furnaces, packaging systems, screens, dust collection systems, compressors, conveyors, and material handling equipment.

 

Inventory and Material Management: 

·       Monitor raw material, packaging material, and finished goods inventories.

·       Ensure inventory accuracy through proper material tracking and reporting.

·       Coordinate raw material deliveries and finished product shipments.

·       Support warehouse and logistics activities to maintain customer service levels.

 

Leadership and Employee Development: 

·       Supervise, coach, train, and develop plant personnel.

·       Establish clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback.

·       Conduct employee performance evaluations and support employee development plans.

·       Promote teamwork, accountability, communication, and employee engagement.

·       Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and workforce development activities.

·       Develop future leaders and strengthen workforce capabilities within the operation.

 

Continuous Improvement: 

·       Lead Lean Manufacturing, 6S, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.

·       Analyze operational data and identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety, and cost performance.

·       Implement standard work practices, operating procedures, and process controls.

·       Drive initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance operational reliability.


Reporting and Administrative Responsibilities: 

·       Prepare and review production, quality, safety, maintenance, and inventory reports.

·       Maintain accurate operational records and documentation.

·       Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and communicate results to management.

·       Assist with annual budgets, cost control initiatives, and operational planning activities.

·       Provide regular updates to management regarding plant performance and improvement opportunities.

 

 Supervisory Responsibilities: 

·       Directly supervises production personnel and shift leaders.

·       Provides leadership and direction for all operating personnel.

·       Coordinates activities between Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Shipping, and Warehouse functions.

·       Participate in employee selection, training, performance management, and disciplinary actions.

·       May serve as acting site leader in the absence of the Perlite Development Manager.


Qualifications: 

Education

·       Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Technology, Operations Management, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred.

·       Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

 

Experience: 

·       Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing or industrial operations experience.

·       Minimum of 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

·       Experience in perlite, mineral processing, mining, aggregates, cement, lime, refractory, or similar process industries preferred.

·       Experience with furnace operations, thermal processing systems, bulk material handling, screening, packaging, and shipping operations preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

·       Strong leadership and team development skills.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

·       Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement methodologies.

·       Knowledge of MSHA, environmental, and regulatory compliance requirements.

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

·       Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

·       Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing reporting systems.

·       Strong organizational, planning, and decision-making capabilities.

 

 Physical Requirements: 

·       Ability to work in industrial plant environments with exposure to dust, noise, heat, and moving equipment.

·       Ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

·       Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

·       Ability to work extended hours when necessary to support operational requirements.

 Salary Range - $95k - $110k
