About The Role
The Associate Customs Manager is a key member of the EMEA Customs Team based in Amsterdam, reporting to the Head of Customs EMEA. Working closely with internal stakeholders (operations, supply chain, legal, finance) as well as external partners (contract manufacturers, customs brokers, external advisors, customs authorities), the Associate Customs Manager is responsible for a range of post-clearance customs compliance activities and provides support and guidance through trade data analytics, risk management, and self-compliance programs.
Key responsibilities of the role include the following:
- Develop and execute post-clearance audit programs, including the regular auditing of all EMEA country customs operations to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Provide expert guidance to key internal stakeholders (operations, supply chain, legal, finance) and external parties (contract manufacturers, customs brokers, advisors, customs authorities).
- Oversee customs brokerage compliance reporting, ensuring accuracy and using data analytics to support business decisions and identify risk or potential non-compliance.
- Act as the operational point of contact for customs brokers, providing clearance instructions and resolving day-to-day queries.
- Handle retrospective declaration adjustments and corrections, post-entry amendments, and follow-up on held or delayed shipments.
- Support HS classification and origin determination, ensuring accuracy across EMEA declarations.
- Support duty optimization and the use of special customs procedures, such as customs warehousing and inward processing.
- Monitor customs broker costs and drive transparency and efficiency.
- Collaborate with APAC Customs team, particularly on FTA (Free Trade Agreement) effectiveness and duty savings.
- Support audits and respond to queries from customs authorities in EMEA.
- Contribute to continuous process improvement of customs operations and risk management.
About You
- Broad experience (minimum 3-5 years), in customs compliance, import and export processes in EMEA jurisdictions
- Strong analytical skills
- Auditing experience
- Experience working in an international environment
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong ability to manage competing priorities in a tight timeframe with limited resources
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proactive, resilient, flexible, and willing to think outside the box.
- Fluent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
- Strong Excel skills, with experience in customs or ERP systems and trade data analysis.
