Summary of Role:

Analysts perform complex reviews of high-risk activity. They use their judgement to take actions that minimize member impact, while mitigating suspicious activity, avoiding losses to members and the Credit Union, and instilling confidence in our members that the credit union is here to protect them. As part of the Financial Crimes Team, this role is central to reducing the financial benefit and support of criminal activity in order to improve the quality of life for our communities.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Protecting our members by identifying potential instances of fraud, taking appropriate actions to prevent it, and letting them know we are here for them through every step.

  • Educating members by notifying them if their personal information has been compromised and informing them on how to protect their information and avoid scams.

  • Enhancing the credit union’s brand by creating an unmatched member experience, striving for resolution at first contact and taking extreme ownership over issues.

  • Researching and responding to fraud-related inquiries from members and employees, including questions on activity that was or was not stopped by fraud rules.

  • Taking reports of fraud and unauthorized activity from members and performing the necessary steps to secure their accounts and return any stolen funds (in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations).

  • Using open-source information and other resources to resolve concerns over suspicious activity.

  • Supporting investigators by gathering evidence, documenting findings, and escalating cases.

  • Maintaining an understanding of relevant laws, including the FACT Act, Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation E, and others.

  • Recommending enhancements to the fraud program, as appropriate.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Associate degree and two (2) years of operational and service-oriented experience in a financial institution or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of financial service industry fraud techniques and fraud-related compliance requirements.

  • Ability to work on a dynamic, high-risk operations team subject to regulatory deadlines and requirements.

  • Ability to make effective decisions under pressure involving high monetary value.

  • Analytical skills – collects and researches data, uses intuition and experience to compile and analyze data; designs work flows and procedures as appropriate for department efficiency.

  • Problem solving – identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations. 

  • Interpersonal skills – works well with diverse groups of people; always treats others with respect and dignity; focuses on solving conflict without hostility; works towards achievement of mutual goals.

  • Ethics – works with integrity while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information; upholds the values of the organization in the course of work.

  • Adaptability – adapts to changes in the work environment; changes approach or method to best fit the situation.

Additional Requirements:

  • Onsite presence required, up to 3 or more days per week, at management’s discretion.

  • Some evening or Saturday work required.

Starting Compensation: $20.68 - $24.82/hr., plus a competitive benefits package
