Health, Safety & Environmental Manager
About the Role
Health, Safety & Environmental Manager is positioned as L4 specialist within Hitachi organisation and maps to Environmental/HSE/Other Role. The role provides assurance evidence and process discipline across safety, RAM, quality, cybersecurity, HSE or human factors, supporting design maturity, approvals, test readiness, acceptance and operational readiness. Its specific contribution is to manage HSE plans, environmental controls, site risk assessments and incident-prevention actions.
Key Responsibilities
Define HSE plan, risk assessment/method statement expectations, induction requirements, site rules, inspection schedule and incident-reporting process.
Review RAMS, permits, work-at-height, electrical safety, manual handling, environmental controls and emergency arrangements for site/lab activities.
Lead inspections, audits, toolbox talks, behavioural safety interventions and subcontractor HSE monitoring.
Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions; drive corrective/preventive actions to closure.
Coordinate HSE readiness for installation, energisation, testing, commissioning and logistics operations.
Apply the Hitachi Code of Conduct in role-specific decisions, including ethical escalation, anti-bribery discipline, confidentiality, data protection, fair supplier/customer conduct and transparent records.
Manage HSE plans, environmental controls, site risk assessments and incident-prevention actions.
Functional authority on HSE and environmental compliance.
Can stop or escalate unsafe site activity or environmental non-compliance.
Key Interfaces
Project Manager, Implementation Manager, Construction Manager, Site Manager, T&C Manager and Laboratories Manager.
Customer/infrastructure owner site HSE representatives, subcontractors and suppliers.
Quality, Safety Assurance and Work Package Leaders where HSE controls affect technical work.
Customer’s HSE/environment teams.
Risk meetings.
Incident-response sessions.
Authority & Accountability
Accountable for HSE Governance, inspections and incident-management discipline.
Authorised to stop unsafe work and require corrective action before work proceeds.
Escalates significant HSE risks and incidents through Project and corporate channels.
Mandate
Ensure all delivery activities are planned and executed safely, legally and responsibly in the Danish railway environment.
Skills & Experience
HSE management experience in construction, rail, electrical, telecoms or industrial environments.
Strong knowledge of permits, incident investigation, contractor management and environmental controls.
Ability to influence site behaviours and challenge unsafe production pressure.
Resilience and resistance to stress during incidents, audits, high-risk works and possession windows.
Practical leadership and stop-work courage.
More than 5 years in HSE/environmental management on live infrastructure works.
