Scientific Drilling is looking for a Temporary Human Resources Assistant to join our team at our Corporate Headquarters in The Woodlands, TX. This position will support a variety of Human Resources activities across our U.S. operations, providing an opportunity to gain broad exposure to HR processes and the business.

Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide. Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world. We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support the onboarding process, including initiating background checks and pre-employment drug screenings and preparing employment offers.
  • Process new hires and employee terminations across applicable HR systems.
  • Process employee action requests within UKG, including pay changes, transfers, title changes, and other employee updates.
  • Conduct new hire orientations and assist employees throughout the onboarding process.
  • Complete employment verifications and assist with unemployment inquiries.
  • Coordinate random and other required drug screenings and help ensure testing requirements are met for compliance purposes.
  • Collect, review, maintain, and file employee documentation, ensuring information is accurate and properly recorded in applicable systems.
  • Respond to routine internal and external HR-related inquiries and direct more complex matters to the appropriate HR team member.
  • Assist with HR initiatives and projects, including open enrollment, employee engagement activities, HR communications, and newsletters.
  • Provide administrative support for payroll and tax-related activities as needed.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality when handling employee, proprietary, and other sensitive information.
  • Perform other HR-related duties and projects as assigned based on the needs of the business.

This role is primarily onsite, with one flexible work-from-home day per week.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • UKG Ready experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Canva and Mailchimp is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work effectively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact effectively with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to learn new systems, processes, and procedures quickly.
  • Ability to meet applicable safety requirements.
  • Ability to read, communicate, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to adhere to Company policies, procedures, work schedules, and attendance expectations

Education, Experience, Certification, and Training:

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university preferred; equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • 2–3 years of Human Resources, HR administrative, or related professional experience preferred.
  • Experience working with HR systems is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Location, Physical Requirements & PPE:

Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 25 lbs., perceive depth and operate a motor vehicle.

Conditions may include working inside and/or outside. May work around machines with moving parts and moving objects. Working near radiant and electrical energy. Working closely with others or working alone. Working extended or irregular hours and travelling by all possible modes of transportation.

Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include, but are not limited to, computers and related equipment, calculators, copiers, fax machines, telephone, and vehicles. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, safety glasses, hardhat, reinforced toed shoes, coveralls, gloves, and ear plugs or muffs.
