Description

The Part-Time Veterans Services Specialist provides administrative, customer service, and program support to the Office of Veterans Services. The position assists veteran, active-duty, reservist, National Guard, and dependent students with educational benefits and college processes while supporting certification activities and compliance efforts. The specialist serves as a key member of the Veterans Services team, helping ensure accurate records management, timely benefit processing, and exceptional service to military-connected students.
  • Conduct quality-control reviews of student records, documentation, and benefit-related information to support accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Assist School Certifying Officials with the preparation, review, and processing of VA education benefit certifications.
  • Serve as a School Certifying Official (SCO), as designated by the College, upon completion of required training and authorization.
  • Review enrollment and student information for accuracy and identify discrepancies or documentation requiring additional attention.
  • Assist with maintaining organized and accurate records in accordance with institutional requirements and applicable Department of Veterans Affairs regulations.
  • Provide administrative and operational support during peak certification and enrollment periods.
  • Provide supplemental assistance to veteran and military-connected students regarding routine questions, documentation, and departmental processes.
  • Collaborate with the Veterans Services Coordinator and Director of Veteran Services to support departmental priorities, programs, outreach activities, special projects, and student success initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required education and experience:
  • Associate degree required
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience with Department of Veterans Affairs educational benefits through personal use, professional experience, or a combination thereof.
  • Demonstrated customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and standard office technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain School Certifying Official (SCO) training and authorization.

Preferred education and experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience working in higher education, student services, enrollment services, veterans’ services, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of VA educational benefit programs and processes.
  • Experience with records management, compliance, or federal program administration.
  • Veteran, military spouse, or military-connected family member.

  • Primarily an office environment within a higher education setting.

Physical demands:
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and electronically.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
