POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Ceded Technician is an experienced technical role responsible for accurate execution of ceded calculations, processing, reconciliations, and reporting for a defined class of business (Property). Reporting to the AVP, Manager – Ceded (Technical Recoveries), this role performs advanced technical processing, validates complex deals, supports quarter-end close activities, and ensures adherence to internal controls and contractual terms. The Senior Ceded Technician acts as a subject matter expert within the team, providing guidance to junior technicians, supporting cross-functional interactions with underwriting, claims, reserving, and finance teams, and ensuring all ceded data and outputs meet accuracy, timeliness, and audit-readiness standards. This role also supports process improvements, system enhancements, operational efficiency initiatives, and key deliverables during peak activity periods. This position is integral to ensuring the accuracy and completeness of ceded recoveries, strengthening data quality, and supporting the broader technical recoveries lifecycle.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Subject Loss Calculations: Prepare accurate subject loss allocation calculations across assigned entities. Ensure data sources are reconciled, calculations comply with treaty terms, and all outputs are clearly documented.
Non-Proportional Recovery Calculations: Perform detailed recovery calculations for property non-proportional structures. Identify discrepancies, conduct reasonableness checks, and escalate complex cases.
CPP Quota Share Processing: Execute CPP quota share premium and loss allocations. Confirm correct application of contractual mechanics. Maintain accurate records and reconciliation documentation.
Collateral Monitoring and Processing: Prepare quarterly collateral calculations and maintain tracking for LOCs and Trust Accounts. Assist with updates, releases, and reconciliations required in SICS and other areas.
Premium Adjustments: Calculate and process annual premium adjustments, additional premiums and related items. Ensure calculations follow contract terms and support audit requirements.
No Claims Bonus: Perform and validate No Claims Bonus calculations, including eligibility checks, claims tracking, and accurate execution of bonus payment. Maintain comprehensive documentation and support queries from ceded underwriters.
Reserving Input Support: Provide accurate recovery and exposure data to reserving team, support inquiries and ensure completeness of ceded inputs for reserving cycles.
Commutation Support: Prepare exposure reports, aging schedules, and supporting data for potential commutations or write-offs. Analyse and summarize contract positions and financial impacts.
Close Process and Controls Compliance: Execute close-related tasks including reconciliations and control documentation. Ensure full adherence to SOX controls and provide audit-ready backup files.
SICS/Systems Processing and Reconciliation: Enter, validate, and reconcile ceded data in SICS or other system(s). Analyse issues, correct errors, and support system enhancement testing as required.
Documentation and Process Improvement Support: Maintain standard operating procedures documentation and contribute suggestions for operational improvements, automation opportunities, and workflow optimizations.
Financial Performance and Analysis
- Provide ad hoc deal performance and analysis to underwriters throughout the renewal process, and as required throughout deal life cycle.
- Prepare ongoing and ad hoc ceded data analysis for other functions.
Strategic Projects
- Support the continued enhancement and on-going development of various systems and process improvements, ensuring that all operational and financial needs are met.
- Assist with certain local or global projects and / or project workstreams in connection with global projects.
- Participate in any special projects or ad hoc tasks that may be required, internally or externally, and provide general assistance to other functional areas, as necessary.

EXPECTED COMPETENCIES:
- A university degree required; emphasis in business, insurance, finance, or accounting is advantageous.
- A professional designation preferred (such as CPA or ACCA); candidates holding other relevant professional designations may also be considered.
- A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience within insurance or reinsurance, with ceded reinsurance experience considered advantageous.
