JOB PURPOSE
The Bids Writer is responsible for creating compelling, compliant, and high-quality proposals and tender submissions that clearly articulate the company’s value proposition.
This role involves collaborating with internal teams, understanding client requirements, and producing persuasive content that maximizes win rates.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Essential
- Previous bid writing experience, or similar
- Excellent research and interpretation skills
- Skills in questioning, writing, editing and checking/reviewing
- Exceptional attention to detail – taking a proactive and detail-oriented approach
- Excellent time-management and organisation skills
- Excellent communicator – strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Excellent IT skills – including proficiency in all MS Office applications
- Strong academic background. Degree level desirable [English Language, Historyy, Psychology, or similar] or, if you have bid writing experience - GCSE English A/B or 6/7 and Maths C/4, as a minimum.
Desirable
- Proven bid team involvement
- Industry experience – Builders Merchants or similar
- Public Sector knowledge – Local Authority bidding
- Bid qualification – APMP, Shipley or equivalent
- CRM / Database experience
KEY RESULT AREAS
Capable of writing and creating bespoke responses with the aim of securing Business tenders within the public sector, this includes;
Bid Writing/Proposal Development:
- Delivering on-time bespoke documents - by managing others and self, effectively.
– Write, edit, and format bids and proposal documents for public sector opportunities.
– Ensure all submissions meet client specifications, deadlines, and compliance requirements
Content Management:
– Working with the rest of the Bid Team to develop and maintain a library of standard responses, case studies, and templates.
– Tailor content to reflect client needs and project objectives.
- Preparing presentations for Sales Managers to support post-submission interviews.
Quality Assurance:
- Delivering high standards of work, ensuring all documents are free from errors and professionally presented - ensuring the layout of the documents is correct and to a high standard – in line with agreed corporate style guides.
– Proofreading and reviewing Bid Responses/Proposals for clarity, accuracy, and alignment with brand guidelines.
– Implementing best practices for bid writing and presentations.
Research & Analysis:
– Analyze tender documents and identify key requirements and evaluation criteria.
– Conduct market and competitor research to strengthen proposal positioning.
Compliance & Governance:
– Ensure adherence to procurement regulations and company policies.
– Maintain confidentiality and integrity throughout the bid process.
- Knowing at all times where we are against deadlines and communicating accordingly, managing these deadlines.
COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Creating an effective network and building relationships with colleagues, to call upon if required to support you in achieving a deadline - adapting style for different team members, to maximise their output.
- Work closely with sales, technical, and operational teams to gather accurate information.
- Coordinating input from subject matter experts and ensure consistency across documents.
This is a national role is the sense of supporting the business and working on tenders on a national basis ranging from contracts worth £100K to £10million plus per annum
