POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is responsible for key accounting and financial reporting activities, including general ledger and fund accounting, fixed asset and capital project accounting, month-end and year-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial analysis, nonprofit accounting, and audit support. This position independently manages assigned accounting responsibilities and works cross-functionally to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and effective internal controls.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fixed Assets

  • Maintain the fixed asset subledger, including additions, transfers, disposals, useful lives, depreciation, asset classifications, and reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Review capital expenditures and apply organizational capitalization policies and GAAP to determine appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Maintain and reconcile construction-in-progress and capital project accounts, including tracking project costs, reviewing capitalization eligibility, transferring completed projects to fixed assets, and ensuring timely project closeout.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable, Procurement, Facilities, Information Technology, and project owners to obtain documentation supporting capital purchases, project costs, asset locations, and in-service dates.
  • Prepare depreciation entries, fixed asset roll-forwards, capital project schedules, depreciation forecasts, and related financial reporting and analysis.
  • Coordinate periodic fixed asset inventories and process asset transfers, retirements, disposals, write-offs, and related gains or losses.

Foundation Accounting

  • Perform foundation and fund accounting activities and maintain accurate reporting by fund, program, department, grant, funding source, and other applicable financial dimensions.
  • Account for contributions, grants, restricted funds, net assets with and without donor restrictions, and releases from donor restrictions.
  • Determine monthly investment income return and allocate accordingly across endowments and applicable funds
  • Ensure foundation transactions are properly classified, allocated, supported, and recorded in accordance with donor and grant requirements, GAAP, organizational policies, and internal controls.
  • Analyze foundation financial statements, fund activity, account balances, and monthly variances and investigate significant or unusual fluctuations.

General Duties

  • Own assigned areas of the monthly and year-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, supporting schedules, account analysis, and resolution of outstanding items.
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies, aged reconciling items, unusual transactions, and accounting issues.
  • Analyze monthly variances and investigate significant or unusual fluctuations.
  • Support annual financial statement audits, regulatory reporting, fixed asset and capital expenditure testing, and preparation of schedules for IRS Form 990 and other required filings, as applicable.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, automate recurring activities, and improve financial reporting and asset tracking.
  • Assist with accounting policies and procedures, provide guidance to accounting staff, and participate in system enhancements, financial reporting initiatives, and special projects.
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned

JOB DETAILS
• Pay Rate: $110,000-130,000 annually
• Hours: Full-Time 40 hours per week
• Shift Schedule: Day
• Working Days: Monday through Friday

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
      •   Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with nonprofit and/or fund accounting.
  • Experience with fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, and reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience accounting for restricted funds, grants, contributions, or similar funding arrangements.
  • Ability to analyze capital expenditures and apply capitalization policies and accounting principles to determine appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with construction-in-progress accounting, capital project closeout, and fixed asset inventories.
  • Experience supporting nonprofit financial statement audits.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP Fixed Assets or a comparable ERP/fixed asset system.
  • Experience in healthcare, senior living, social services, or a related nonprofit environment.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with facilities, information technology, procurement, or project management teams on capital projects.
