Summary

The Student Ambassador position is a student leadership position that positively represents Barry University and fulfills the mission of the university, and the mission of the Department of Recruitment and Admissions. Student Ambassadors will help educate visitors about campus life, history, traditions and achievements of the University.


Student Ambassadors are responsible for providing support campus tours, recruitment events, student outreach, social media initiatives, and other Admissions activities.


The student ambassador’s work schedule is flexible based on their coursework and will include evenings and weekends as needed. This position guarantees one semester in the program with the option to be re-hired for the next semester based on performance evaluation. 

Essential Functions

Campus Visit, Event & Guest Experience

Serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable representative of Barry University to prospective students, families, and campus guests.

  • Greet and assist prospective students, families, and University visitors.

  • Conduct individual, family, group, Saturday, holiday, and special campus tours.

  • Participate in Admissions recruitment events, student panels, Open Houses, admitted student programs, and other University initiatives.

  • Assist with event check-in, wayfinding, setup, breakdown, and other guest experience needs.

  • Serve as Bucky, Barry University's mascot, at designated Admissions events. f. Represent Barry professionally and enthusiastically during all visitor interactions and activities, including occasional evening and weekend programs.

Admissions & Student Engagement Support

Support Undergraduate Admissions in engaging prospective and admitted students throughout the recruitment and enrollment process.

  • Provide customer service to students and families in person, by phone, and virtually, connecting them with Admissions Counselors or University resources as appropriate.

  • Conduct welcome calls, event reminders, follow-up calls, and other approved student and family outreach.

  • Participate in Admissions webinars, virtual programs, student panels, and student engagement initiatives.

  • Provide front desk coverage and assist with inquiry processing and recruitment-related projects as needed.

  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling student information

Recruitment Marketing & Social Media 

Support the promotion of Admissions programs and the Barry student experience through student centered marketing and engagement.

  • Manage and create content for the Student Ambassador Instagram account, including posts, Stories, Reels, takeovers, and other approved content.

  • Assist with promoting campus visits, Admissions events, deadlines, and other recruitment initiatives through approved social media channels.

  • Participate in Admissions marketing content and provide the student perspective for recruitment communications and campaigns.

  • Prepare and maintain recruitment materials, counselor packets, merchandise, acceptance materials, and promotional items.

Office & Operational Support 

Support the daily operational needs of Undergraduate Admissions and maintain welcoming, organized Admissions spaces.

  • Maintain and organize the Admissions lobby, Ambassador workspaces, tour areas, and other guest-facing spaces.

  • Complete inventory checks and restock recruitment, event, tour, and promotional materials at Kelley House, Hopper, and other designated locations.

  • Assist with administrative tasks including mail, filing, data entry, data collection, photocopying, correspondence, and packet preparation.

  • Support special projects and other duties as assigned by Undergraduate Admissions leadership.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • One to three years of work experience.

  • Must have completed at least 12 credit hours or one semester at Barry University prior to employment.

  • Must be available to work during University breaks, including winter, spring, and summer breaks, as needed.

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.

  • Possess a positive, outgoing, and professional attitude and the ability to engage with diverse populations.

  • Demonstrate initiative, dependability, reliability, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Maintain working knowledge of Barry University's campus, programs, services, and resources.

  • Demonstrate basic proficiency with computers and the ability to learn University systems and technology.

  • Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling student information.

  • Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and good judgment when assisting students and families.

  • Have a genuine interest in supporting prospective and new students and representing Barry University.

Expectations

  • Follow expectations outlined in the Student Ambassador Manual, Student Handbook, and applicable Employee Handbook policies.

  • Work a minimum of 16 hours per week based on an established schedule that accommodates academic coursework.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student and University information.

  • Complete required Student Ambassador onboarding, training, and professional development, including applicable technology and recruitment systems training.

  • Participate in required Student Ambassador meetings and designated student leadership training.

  • Maintain professional and appropriate attire in accordance with Student Ambassador dress guidelines.

  • Demonstrate positive academic behaviors and serve as a professional role model for fellow Ambassadors and students.

  • Participate in performance evaluations and demonstrate continued progress in meeting program expectations. Performance concerns may result in additional reviews, corrective action, or termination of employment

Scheduling

  • Report to all scheduled shifts, tours, meetings, and events on time and prepared to work.

  • Academic course schedules will be considered when establishing work schedules. Once established, Ambassadors are responsible for maintaining their assigned schedule.

  • Requests for time off for extracurricular activities or other non-academic commitments must be submitted in advance and approved by a supervisor.

  • Provide at least 24 hours' notice for planned schedule changes or time-off requests whenever possible. Emergencies and unexpected circumstances should be communicated to a supervisor as soon as possible.

  • Repeated tardiness, absences, or failure to follow established scheduling procedures may result in corrective action.

  • Evening, weekend, and University break availability may be required based on recruitment and event needs.

  • Work hours must remain within applicable University and student employment limits, including requirements for international students.
