JOB SUMMARY

 

Works to ensure that exhibits are functional for the public by maintaining equipment, servicing exhibit hardware, computer hardware, regularly vacuuming projectors, computers, etc. Uses a variety of tools and critical thinking skills to provide repairs/upgrades to existing equipment.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Must possess a good practical understanding of physical, mechanical, and electrical concepts in simple and complex systems. Knowledge of electronics, soldering and circuit assembly a plus.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Help build and construct exhibits for public use in the Planetarium building
  • Work with exhibit technicians to organize and prioritize work to keep exhibits operational
  • Solve problems with exhibits as they arise to keep exhibits operational
  • Builds/integrates needed hardware, maintains inventory and supports exhibit sales

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

 

Knowledge of:   

  • Basic electrical principles and practices
  • Basic construction and building practices
  • Troubleshooting existing mechanical and electronic systems
  • Basic computer operations

Skills and Abilities to:  

  • Use tools to repair, augment and maintain exhibits
  • Use critical thinking to diagnose problems and propose solutions

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Must be able to climb ladders, crouch, sit, squat and be in uncomfortable positions using a variety of tools for extended periods. Must be able to work in a shop using relevant tools.

TEMPORARY POSITIONS:

 

An "At Will", FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

  • Must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.
  • Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
  • Are not considered merit employees.
  • Are "at will" employees who may be terminated for any reason, without notice, and without a pre-termination hearing.
