Senior Mechanical Engineer – Fixed-Term Position
This is a fixed-term position providing temporary cover during parental leave. The employment will continue until 30 June 2027.
Job Description
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will design, analyze, and evaluate mechanical solutions for particle accelerators and related systems. You will work in accordance with company standards, procedures, and product and program requirements.
You will contribute to both new product development and redesign activities, with a strong focus on reliable engineering solutions, design for manufacturing, and long-term product support.
Key Responsibilities
Develop innovative and reliable mechanical solutions using 2D and 3D CAD, PTC Creo.
Design and evaluate components, assemblies, and systems for particle accelerators and associated equipment.
Contribute to new product development, redesign, cost-reduction, and product-maintenance activities.
Apply design-for-manufacturing principles and collaborate with manufacturing teams and suppliers to ensure producible and sustainable solutions.
Create and maintain assembly drawings, detailed drawings, bills of materials, and engineering change documentation.
Support product lifecycle management and help maintain the integrity and serviceability of cyclotron products with lifetimes exceeding 20 years.
Plan and perform prototype testing, verification, and design validation.
Use technologies such as 3D printing and 3D scanning to support prototyping, modifications, rework, and the development of manufacturing solutions.
Collaborate effectively with suppliers, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Service, and other engineering disciplines.
Independently identify and drive tasks while contributing actively to team-based problem-solving.
Required Qualifications
Extensive professional experience in mechanical engineering and product development.
Strong proficiency in 3D mechanical CAD design using PTC Creo or a comparable CAD system.
Demonstrated experience in developing mechanical parts, assemblies, drawings, and engineering documentation.
Experience working with design changes, bills of materials, and product lifecycle documentation.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive assigned activities to completion.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
Excellent communication skills in both Swedish and English.
Desired Characteristics
Experience in designing complex mechanical systems involving vacuum, pressure, cooling, piping, or high-precision assemblies.
Understanding of finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics using Ansys or equivalent tools.
Experience with prototype testing, verification, 3D printing, or 3D scanning.
Experience working with suppliers, Sourcing, and Manufacturing in an international engineering environment.
A practical and creative approach to solving complex technical challenges.
