ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBLITIES:

Equipment Inspection and Maintenance

  • Routinely inspect equipment to identify and report potential equipment failure or safety issues (personnel and/or equipment safety)
  • Able to identify equipment issues that pose a safety hazard to employees and/or equipment.
  • Monitor automation system performance and report abnormalities that may impact production, safety, or equipment reliability.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled and/or assigned.
  • Carry out necessary repairs to maintain the operational integrity of equipment and machinery.
  • Support the installation, startup, modification, and continuous improvement of automation and control systems.

Equipment Operation and Safety

  • Operate various power tools, measuring instruments, welding systems, and other maintenance equipment in a safe manner.
  • Safely operate forklifts, manual and electric pallet jacks (Plant Certification required).
  • Ensure all operations comply with safety standards and protocols.

Maintain all required company & departmental records and documents

  • Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to create, update, and close work orders and preventive maintenance worksheets.
  • Maintain and organize equipment manuals located within the Maintenance Library for reference.
  • Daily refrigeration system inspection log

Other Responsibilities                                                                                                               

  • Keep work area clean and free of clutter and debris
  • Follow all (GMP) and safety guidelines
  • Attend and participate in ongoing training related to the role.
  • Contribute to the management of parts inventory to ensure adequate supplies for maintenance tasks.
  • Keep tools cleaned, maintained and organized

Employee Safety

  • Maintenance personnel shall have a thorough understanding of G.M.P.’s and follow accordingly.
  • Maintenance personnel shall have a thorough understanding of Standard Meat Company’s Maintenance Program, Safety programs and all Company policies and follow accordingly.
  • Appropriate personal safety equipment must be used at all times.
  • Steel toe boots or shoes shall be worn on plant premises. 
  • Tools must be kept clean.
  • Under no circumstances shall any equipment safety devices be bypassed at any time.
  • Job assignments shall be made and coordinated by the Supervisor of Maintenance - either verbal, written memo or listed on the weekly maintenance task list through the use of the CMMS.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN III

  • Must possess a strong understanding of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Must be able to read electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, sensors, VFDs, servo drives, and associated control circuits.
  • Experience with robotic systems, including robotic arms, automated material handling systems, end-of-arm tooling, and related peripherals, is preferred.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and control system issues on automated and robotic equipment.
  • Fanuc robotics equipment experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation networks and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, CAN BUS, DeviceNet, Modbus, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience working in a facility with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration safety, operations, and maintenance practices is a plus. Employees must successfully complete required ammonia refrigeration training during the course of employment.
  • Equipment Overhauls (Complete rebuilds of Electrical and Mechanical Systems)
  • Must be able to test electrical devices (Motor, Brakes, Etc.) and identify issues
  • Must be able to complete electrical identification and repair (Plug, Relay, VFD, Etc.)
  • Must be able to complete Motor/Gearbox identification and repair
  • Sound understanding of safety relays and circuits
  • Process equipment assembly
  • Working knowledge of welding and fabrication
  • Building systems identification and operations and repairs (Boilers, Air Compressors, HVAC, Refrigeration, Etc.)
  • Advanced Plumbing identification and repair (Water Closet, sinks, fittings, Pipe threading, Etc.)

                                                                                                                                                        

  • Inspection and maintenance of Facility safety devices (Fire Extinguisher, Eye wash station, Etc.)
  • Preferred knowledge of Fire Alarm and Life Safety Systems but not required
  • Maintain building and grounds
  • Tap and Die identification and utilization
  • Working knowledge of maintenance tools, appliances, and devices used for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Advanced-level problem-solving skills
  • Written and verbal communication skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school education or minimum of 7 years related experience or training

SUMMARY: As a valuable member of the Maintenance Team, a Maintenance Technician III plays a crucial role in ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of the facility's equipment, systems, and utilities. The position is responsible for performing routine inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and operating maintenance equipment. The technician works independently and collaboratively to meet departmental goals and company standards. They are committed to upholding high standards of safety, quality, and productivity, while maintaining positive relationships with customers and fellow team members.

Shifts, starting times and workdays will always be determined by production scheduling and coordinated by maintenance supervision to provide adequate coverage of all affected areas. Good attendance and must be available to work overtime and weekends as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and extreme cold temperature.  The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

Until properly trained, maintenance mechanics will not work on any equipment or building systems they have not been trained on.  It is the responsibility of members of the maintenance team to ask for assistance and/or training on any tasks they are not qualified to perform.
