JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Pharmacy Inventory/Compliance specialist represents the pharmacy’s frontline staff in terms of receiving critical patient medications for UVMMC inpatients and clinic stock. The pharmacy Inventory compliance specialist is accountable for the receiving of all medications ordered by the pharmacy buyers, and they are the first step in the storage and distribution of medications within the UVM Medical Center inpatient and ambulatory clinics. This includes receiving and handling of Controlled Substances, Oncology medications, hazardous, and non-hazardous medications along with those drugs supplied to all of UVMMC’s 80 plus clinics/departments. The receiving process is complex and requires great attention to detail. Medications are validated in multiple systems including the Wholesaler electronic receiving system, to ensure appropriate charging and product integrity as required by track & trace regulations, the Pharmacy inventory management system BD Logistics, and the Electronic Health Record, Epic. The inventory management and distribution of all medications require sound understanding of multiple workflows, requirements for medication storage and handling, and the importance of getting the right drug to the right place at the right time.
Other duties of the pharmacy Inventory/Compliance Specialist include conducting cycle counts throughout the inventory management system, rotating stock, adjusting or redistributing inventory to ensure the earliest expiration dated products are used first and that unnecessary outdate waste is minimal, processing medication returns to the drug wholesaler, manufacturer, or reverse distributor, and removing recalled medications from storeroom stock. The pharmacy Inventory/Compliance Specialist also picks and packages medications for delivery to UVMMC ambulatory clinics and community EMS Agencies. Characteristics that make the Inventory/Compliance Specialist successful include attention to detail, ability to multi-task and deal with frequent interruptions, good customer service skills, comfort with technology including barcode scanning, RFID tags, e-mail and online ordering applications. Another important duty of this position is the reconciling and replenishing of Emergency Code Carts in the hospital and restocking of other emergency kits used throughout the facility and at ambulatory clinics and repackaging or relabeling medications and kits into ready to use dosage forms.

EXPERIENCE:
