Description

The team
ING's Banking Risk department is responsible for measuring and managing Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB) across the ING Group. As part of a global function, you will work closely with Financial Risk, Treasury and modelling specialists across multiple countries, including Belgium, Germany, Spain, Australia and other ING locations.
The team plays a key role in understanding and managing how customer behaviour, interest rate movements and balance sheet dynamics translate into financial risk. This offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to banking, quantitative modelling, behavioural analytics and balance sheet management in an international environment.

What you will do

As an intern, you will contribute to projects related to:

  • Interest Rate Risk in the Banking Book (IRRBB)
  • Behavioural modelling of savings, mortgages and other retail products
  • Quantitative analysis supporting Asset & Liability Management (ALM)
  • Data analysis and model development
  • Process improvements and analytical tooling
  • Sensitivity analyses and stress testing
  • Preparing clear and insightful analyses for risk and management discussions

You will work closely with experienced professionals from Financial Risk, Treasury and local risk teams, supporting analyses that contribute to the management of ING's balance sheet and interest rate risk exposure.

What we are looking for
We are looking for a highly motivated student with strong quantitative capabilities, an analytical mindset and a genuine interest in banking and risk management.
You:

  • Are currently in the final year of pursuing a Master's degree in Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, Economics, Finance, Business Analytics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Enjoy working with data and quantitative methods.
  • Have programming experience, preferably in Python.
  • Can structure complex issues and translate analyses into clear and practical insights.
  • Are proactive, curious and solution-oriented.
  • Are available for a full-time internship for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Are studying at a Dutch university, or are an EU citizen enrolled at a European university. Due to visa restrictions, applications from non-EU students studying outside the Netherlands cannot be considered.

What we offer

  • Exposure to quantitative risk management within one of Europe's largest banks.
  • Hands-on experience with interest rate risk, behavioural modelling and balance sheet management.
  • Collaboration with specialists across multiple countries and disciplines.
  • A challenging and international working environment.
  • An opportunity to develop analytical, technical and communication skills that are directly relevant for careers in risk management, quantitative finance and banking.

Interested?
If you enjoy solving analytical problems, are interested in quantitative modelling and would like to understand how a global bank manages its balance sheet and financial risks, we would like to hear from you.

Rewards and benefits
This is a great opportunity to train with highly skilled people who are experts in their field. You’ll do a lot and learn a lot – not only about your specialist area and the bank, but also about yourself and whether this type of environment is right for you.
You’ll also benefit from:

  • Internship allowance of 700 EUR based on 36 hours work week
  • Your own work laptop
  • Hybrid working to blend home working for focus and office working for collaboration and co-creation
  • Personal growth and challenging work with endless possibilities
  • An informal working environment with innovative colleagues

During the duration of your internship at ING, it is mandatory to be enrolled at a Dutch university (or EU-university for EU passport holders).
