Your presence can be the difference between someone feeling alone and someone feeling seen. 

About the role 

This position is based at The Beacon, a 24/7 Homelessness Support Service. The role has a strong front of house focus and involves being the first point of contact for residents, visitors and callers. It includes answering phones, gathering basic intake information, completing data entry and communicating clearly with other staff. The work also involves providing information about accommodation options to members of the public, greeting residents, managing mail collection and supporting the smooth running of afterhours operations. The environment is safe, inclusive and welcoming, and every interaction contributes to someone feeling supported and respected. 

This full-time permanent role sits within the Homelessness Support Service at The Beacon and reports to the Front of House Team Leader. Pay is in accordance with SCHADS Level 3. It is a shift-based position and requires availability across the following shift types: 

  • Day shift: 7.00am to 3.00pm 

  • Afternoon shift: 3.00pm to 11.00pm 

  • Night shift: 11.00pm to 7.00am 

How you will make an impact 

  • Provide a warm, professional first point of contact for residents, visitors and callers 

  • Gather essential intake information and ensure accurate, timely data entry 

  • Share clear information about accommodation and support options 

  • Maintain strong communication with staff through email and handover processes 

  • Support the smooth running of daily and after-hours operations 

  • Maintain a visible presence onsite to promote safety, wellbeing and respectful conduct 

  • Respond calmly and appropriately to situations involving distress, crisis or challenging behaviour 

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive and collaborative team environment 

What you will bring 

  • Certificate IV in Community Services 

  • Experience in homelessness or human services is desirable 

  • Understanding of trauma impacts, human development and social disadvantage 

  • Ability to respond calmly and professionally to challenging behaviours 

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with diverse clients 

  • Initiative, sound judgement and the ability to work independently and within a team 

  • A commitment to The Salvation Army’s values and safe work practices 

  • Valid WA Working with Children Check 

  • Current WA Drivers Licence 

  • First Aid Certificate
