About the job
We are looking for an experienced Compliance Control and Risk Management Team Leader to join an international insurance and financial services environment in Lisbon, Portugal.
You will lead a team of five controllers, coordinate compliance-control activities, and ensure that operational plans and quality standards are successfully delivered.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, support, and develop a team of five controllers.
- Ensure the quality and timely delivery of control activities.
- Manage daily team operations, HR follow-ups, individual performance, staffing, travel, and activity-related costs.
- Prepare an annual control plan based on information provided by the relevant compliance and risk stakeholders.
- Organise the controllers' workload and business travel according to the approved plan.
- Monitor performance indicators and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Organise regular operational meetings with compliance and risk management stakeholders.
- Support quarterly risk reporting and annual control-assessment activities.
- Manage procedures and contribute to additional compliance-control assignments.
- Perform control activities directly when operational support or team backup is required.
- Report functionally to the Head of Compliance Control and Risk Management.
Requirements
- Minimum five years of relevant experience in insurance and compliance control.
- Previous experience managing or supervising a team.
- French at C1 or native level is required. Strong B2 French may be considered for highly confident candidates.
- English at C1 or native level is required.
- Experience in compliance control and risk management is mandatory.
- Knowledge of audit, internal control, or risk-based methodologies.
- Strong understanding of the insurance industry.
- Excellent planning and organisational abilities.
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and strong communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with different teams and stakeholders.
- Availability to travel and work temporarily outside Portugal when required.
- EU citizenship or a valid Portuguese work permit is required.
Working Schedule and Model
- Full-time position.
- The first month will be completed on-site in Lisbon.
- After demonstrating sufficient autonomy, employees may transition to a 50% hybrid working model.
- Exact working hours and office attendance arrangements will be confirmed during the official offer process.
