Raytheon’s newly elevated Mission Engineering organization is entering a transformative phase — and this role sits at the center of that evolution. Mission Engineering is integrating threat expertise, mission decomposition, architectures, technology evaluation, modeling & simulation, operations analysis, mission planners, and world‑class visualization into a unified mission thread shaping programs, pursuits, investments, and strategy.

We are looking for a Section Leader for the Senior Staff Section in the CONOPS Analysis, Visualization and Mission Planning Department. The applicant for this position would have team leadership responsibilities above the typical normal technical work.  This Department’s goal is to assist in developing system Concept of Operation from mission planning to weapon employment, support, drive, and enable key business captures/current programs, special projects, and corporation-wide business opportunities. Section Leaders provide guidance and management to a team of approximately 10 Engineers. The section leader’s responsibilities do not cover a full work week. The candidate selected for this role will build and execute their own portfolio of technical work that will cover most of their work week hours. This specific section is composed of senior engineers, each with their individual portfolios.  The section leader primarily provides functional management for this team of experienced engineers.

This position is onsite in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do

  • Lead a team of senior engineers and staff members

  • Execute your own portfolio of project work for programs, Captures and IRADs

  • Provide guidance, direction, mentoring and influencing skills along with fostering teamwork, interdependent execution, and growth for approximately 8 -10 Engineers

  • Participate in talent acquisition, goal setting, performance development, and appraisal for your team

  • Ensure each direct report has suitable work assignments and opportunities for growth and career advancement

  • Execute direct line management activities for the team, including performance development and appraisal (including salary planning), career development, staffing allocation, and ensuring adherence to company policies and administrative requirements.

  • Collaborate with Capture Teams, Technology Directors, Mission Areas, Engineering and Business Development leaders to improve proposal outcomes.

  • Collaborate with the other Department and Section Leaders in ME to support overall system-of-system product lifecycles

  • Travel will be required – anticipated 10% domestic, more frequent between various sites in Tucson.

Qualifications You Must Have 

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.

  • Documented professional experience in one or more of the following technical domains:

  • Mission Engineering

  •   Operations research and analysis

  •   Modeling and Simulation

  •   Data Analysis

  •   Statistics

  •   Military CONOPS development and analysis

  • US security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Advanced Degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or related discipline

  • Previous management experience in the following:

  • Developing and mentoring new employees

  • Communicating with different levels of employees, departments, and/or customers

  • A leadership role within a RMD department and/or function

  • Team building

  • Interviewing and hiring new employees

  • Existing TS/SCI security clearance, or past qualification for this clearance

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with subordinates, customers, and senior managers throughout the company’s organizations.

  • Strong mentoring skills, both technically and professionally

  • Experience and knowledge of the Integrated Product Development System (IPDS), Proposals and Basis of Estimates (BOEs).

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
