Reports to: Shipping Supervisor
If you hold a CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class B and want to work for a rapidly growing company, then you have found the right career opportunity with Darwill in Hillside, Illinois. We are looking for an energetic driver to handle routes from our facilities across Chicago and the surrounding areas.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Drive a variety of company vehicles throughout the greater Chicago metropolitan area, providing reliable and professional service.
- Help Shrink-wrap pallets and prepare skids to ensure products are securely packaged for transportation when needed.
- Take ownership of loading, packing, and inventorying deliveries, ensuring products are handled accurately and securely.
- Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, including fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes, to ensure vehicles remain in safe and proper working condition.
- Identify and promptly report mechanical issues or other vehicle-related concerns.
- Load and unload trucks, vans, handling materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Comply with all applicable traffic laws and established transportation and safety procedures.
- Read maps and follow written and verbal directions to efficiently navigate customer routes and delivery locations.
- Maintain accurate records, including vehicle logs, delivery and pickup documentation, mileage, fuel receipts, and other required paperwork, in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
- Communicate delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation issues to the Shipping Supervisor or appropriate Darwill contact by phone or other approved method of communication.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Positive, dependable, and can-do attitude with a strong commitment to customer service.
- Valid Driver’s License and CDL Class B certification required.
- Accident-free driving record with a strong commitment to safe driving practices.
- Strong knowledge of Chicago and surrounding areas and the ability to navigate efficiently throughout the metro area.
- Ability to see in low-light conditions and distinguish details at close range.
- Willingness and flexibility to work overtime when necessary.
- Ability to comprehend English, both written and verbal, and communicate effectively with warehouse staff, customers, and other team members.
- Comprehensive understanding of moving and storage operations, including proficiency in packing and loading.
- Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and work proactively with little or no direct supervision.
Weather and Road Conditions:
- Must be able to safely operate a company vehicle in varying weather and road conditions, including rain, snow, ice, fog, and extreme temperatures.
This position requires the ability to perform the following physical activities safely and effectively:
- Stand for 8–12 hours during a workday.
- Walk for up to 3 hours.
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Perform intermittent bending for up to 3 hours.
