Description
Join Shipco IT as a Senior Application Developer
At Shipco IT, we’re the technology engine behind global logistics operations – designing, developing, and maintaining systems that keep freight moving efficiently across the world. As an Application Developer, you’ll help build and enhance applications that power these operations, combining strong technical skills, analytical thinking, and creativity to deliver high-quality software used across multiple regions.
This role is ideal for someone who’s passionate about clean, maintainable code, system performance, and continuous improvement. You’ll be part of a collaborative, global team that values innovation, reliability, and learning – where your code won’t sit on a shelf, but will support business-critical systems and real-world logistics challenges every day.
What You'll Do…
- Build and Enhance Business-Critical Applications: Design, develop, and maintain high-performance web applications using Python and FastAPI for backend microservices, with integration into Angular-based frontends to support business workflows and integrations.
- Collaborate with a Dynamic Team: Work closely with cross-functional experts to deliver innovative solutions and expand your technical expertise.
- Contribute Across the Software Lifecycle: Engage in planning, development, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of applications.
- Analyze and Design Solutions: Evaluate requirements, identify challenges, and deliver scalable, well-documented system solutions.
- Stay Current with Technologies: Explore the latest tools, frameworks, and industry trends to keep solutions innovative and efficient.
- Ensure Code Quality, Performance, and Reliability: Drive testing, optimization, and code reviews to uphold high standards, enforce coding best practices, and continuously improve application stability and performance.
- Troubleshoot and Optimize Production Systems: Proactively identify, debug, and resolve technical issues and performance bottlenecks to ensure stable, reliable operation of business-critical applications.
What You’ll Need…
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience, supported by relevant certifications in Python development, MySQL, or back-end frameworks, and experience working in Agile or Scrum environments.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience designing, developing, and maintaining applications using Python (3.10+) and FastAPI for production microservices, including proven success in modernizing legacy Python services into well-structured, asynchronous microservices. Experience with Flask or Django is a plus.
- Strong ability to implement scalable, maintainable microservices using Python and FastAPI, including async programming patterns, ensuring seamless integration and high performance.
- Advanced knowledge of MySQL (Aurora experience a plus), including database design, writing and optimizing complex queries, stored procedures, and functions, coupled with deep experience using SQLAlchemy (including async engine and session management) as the ORM, along with Pydantic for data validation and serialization.
- Proficiency in Docker, Gunicorn with UvicornWorker, and Git, along with related libraries or frameworks, to deliver scalable, production-ready microservices and endto-end solutions, with hands-on experience in CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent) for automated builds and deployments, and writing unit and integration tests using pytest or equivalent frameworks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot effectively, conduct peer code reviews, and apply coding standards and best practices while working closely with cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, in particular Amazon Web Services (AWS) services such as ECS, ECR, S3, and CloudWatch, along with a commitment to staying up to date with emerging tools, frameworks, and industry best practices. Experience with Apache Cassandra or similar NoSQL databases is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, strong attention to detail, adaptability to changing requirements, and well-developed organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fastpaced environment.
